The Monitor Technician is responsible for performing all activities related to cardiac rhythm monitoring including arrhythmia detection, basic interpretation, communicating information appropriately, and record keeping The Monitor Tech may also be responsible for clerical duties on the patient care unit, promoting an efficient, cooperative and effective environment.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

Responsible for monitoring all cardiac rhythms in Telemetry and/or ICU transcribes physician orders.
Responsible to the nursing staff on the unit and works collaborating with the nursing supervisor.
Demonstrates proper performance of skills reflected and validated by the Monitor Technician competency checklist.
Identifies patient arrhythmias / abnormalities or significant changes from baseline and reports changes immediately to the assigned nurse.
Properly plans/organizes work for assigned shift to utilize time, resources, manpower, supplies to ensure patient receives appropriate quality care.
Obtains 6 second strip as indicated by patient condition and gives current strips to charge nurse for further evaluation.
Adheres to LifeCare policies, procedures, all safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School graduate or equivalent; Completion of Arrhythmia Recognition course.

Minimum Experience: One (1) year experience as Monitor Technician in a Telemetry Unit and six (6) months Unit Secretary experience preferred.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Arrhythmia course completion certificate. Current American Heart Association (BLS) Certification.
