The Automation Specialist will earn $35.75 per hour to provide leadership and technical expertise in support of the safe and reliable operation of the manufacturing plant. Primary focus will be on process control (hardware and software), data acquisition, plant data network, electrical power distribution, and related issues. Responsibilities include the troubleshooting of control, instrument, and electrical problems adversely affecting the manufacturing process. The Specialist will provide training to the Electrical & Instrument Technicians to improve their knowledge and troubleshooting ability. You will be part of a highly motivated and positive environment, with experienced and safety focused team members.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist in the design and installation of electrical/electronic equipment including PLCs, electrical power distribution systems, instrumentation, servo motors and drives, and variable speed AC/DC drives.
Investigate and analyze electrical or controls related problems associated with the manufacturing operation. Take the appropriate action to correct the identified problems.
Plan and perform routine analysis by applying a thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical theories and principles, standards and specifications, and local and national electrical codes.
Ensure software and hardware maintenance for the process control systems and network is conducted in accordance with corporate standards
Direct the work of outside contractors and maintenance staff during project installations.
Assist and train maintenance, production, and other employees as needed with technical or troubleshooting related matters.
Work with the Senior Controls Specialist to monitor plant systems, analyze performance, and initiate action for optimization to achieve plant goals for safety, productivity, and cost effectiveness
Participate in process improvement efforts in support of plant goals

Required Education and Experience:
Minimum of three years of experience in continuous process manufacturing environment with expertise focused on electrical components, electrical power distribution systems, PLC’s, instrumentation, and variable speed AC and DC drives.
Positive attitude, ability to work in an environment with limited supervision and a willingness to contribute to a continuous improvement environment is critical.

Preferred Experience:
Proficiency with Allen Bradley PLC software (RSLogix 5000 and legacy software)
Experience with Allen Bradley PowerFlex variable frequency drives
Demonstrated process control experience in defining, designing, installing, and maintaining control logic systems and equipment.
Effective communication skills.
Proficiency with Allen Bradley Kinetix multi-axis servo drives
Intermediate proficiency in user interface tools, such as Wonderware, SCADA, or PanelView
The selected candidate will be skilled in the design, installation, and upkeep of PLC based controls in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to hold or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders / stairs, twist and bend.The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to climb stairs/ladders and work at elevations up to 80 feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to read and interpret measurements. Rockwell skills testing is administered during GAF’s selection process.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few physical variables in everyday situations.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving equipment. During seasonal changes, employees may be exposed to varied levels of heat and coldness.
