POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Assist in planning, organizing and providing activity programs for all residents in accordance with each resident’s needs/progress.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in planning and promoting activities based on the needs/interests of the residents
  • Encourages social communication through group activities
  • Assists residents with participation in religious programs
  • Assist residents with leisure recreation
  • Visits bed-ridden residents and non-participants and provides appropriate activities
  • Documents resident attendance and participation level at activities; may assist with maintaining pertinent files and writing progress notes, if applicable (must meet qualifications to write in chart)
  • Attends appropriate in-service training programs
  • Assists in the maintenance, storage and use of the activity department supplies
  • Assists with the volunteer program
  • Assists with transporting of residents to and from activity programs
  • Assists with transporting of residents to and from meals
  • Assists in training/acclimating of new Activities staff members
  • Distributes mail daily (including reading to residents requiring assistance)
  • Maintains fish tank and/or bird cage (including feeding/cleaning daily)
  • Maintains activity rooms (including cleaning of tables, appliances, equipment, etc.)
  • Implements and successfully provides daily group activities per monthly activity calendar
  • Maintains resident rights, confidentiality at all times
  • Communicates needs/concerns to Activities Director when indicated
  • Provides Treat Trolley visits to all units 3 times per week
  • Attends/participates in staff/departmental meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the Activities Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience:
Previous experience and/or training with geriatric population required

Industry:
Long Term Care Industry preferred

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to read, write, comprehend and speak the English language
  • Must be an effective communicator with excellent verbal/written skills
  • Must have well-developed organizational abilities
  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
  • Must be willing to work at least one weekend per month
  • Must be willing to work at least one evening per month
