We have an opening for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with Dr. Jamal Razzack and his practice in the Intensive Care Unit at Houston Methodist West in Houston, Texas. We currently have an opportunity to join Razzack and Associates, an established Pulmonary, Critical Care Intensivist, and Sleep Medicine group. The group currently consists of four Physicians and five Nurse Practitioners and is responsible for 24-hour coverage of the Intensive Care Unit and Intermediate Care Unit. The position is an overnight shift from 6 pm to 7 am comprised of six-night shifts in a two-week period. The NP position offers flexibility in scheduling and includes a competitive salary with a comprehensive benefit package. The applicant must be currently certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and be a current Texas Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Additionally, the applicant must have current Advance Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support certifications.

The Nurse Practitioner’s (NP) responsibilities include evaluating and treating patients presenting to Houston Methodist West Hospital for acute and chronic illness and responding to emergencies in the hospital. In our practice, the NP has significant autonomy in the care of the patient with strong support from the intensivists. Additionally, the NP will obtain and record the patient’s medical history, physical exam, and the impression and plan in the electronic medical record. The NP will also order and interpret appropriate tests. The nurse practitioner will perform medical procedures including but not limited to intubation, central line and hemodialysis catheter placement, arterial line placement, thoracentesis, and chest tube placement. Other responsibilities include teaching and counseling patients about current illness and treatment recommendations. It will also be necessary to make referrals to specialists when appropriate and help educate the medical and hospital staff.
