Suburban Associates in Ophthalmology, a leading, multispecialty Ophthalmology practice with three office locations in the NW suburban Chicago area, is looking for an Optician to join their growing practice. Hours vary based on location, to include some Saturday morning shifts. This position requires the ability to be scheduled to float between our Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Village, and Hoffman Estates office locations.
Requirements of the position:
· High school diploma or equivalency
· At least 5 years of optical experience
· Ability to work in fast paced environment
· Prior EHR experience and proficient computer skills
Duties and responsibilities as an Optician include but are not limited to:
· Provide superior customer service to our patients
· Positive attitude with excellent interpersonal skills
Use of knowledge to properly:
- Measure clients' bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes, using measuring devices.
- Verify that finished lenses are ground to specifications.
- Prepare work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.
- Assist clients in selecting frames according to style and color, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
- Perform administrative duties such as tracking inventory and sales, submitting patient insurance information, and performing simple bookkeeping.
- Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit client needs.
- Sell goods such as contact lenses, spectacles, sunglasses, and other goods related to eyes in general.
- Heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames in order to adjust eyeglasses to fit patients, using pliers and hands.
- Evaluate prescriptions in conjunction with clients' vocational and avocational visual requirements.
- Determine patients' current lens prescriptions, when necessary, using lensometers or lens analyzers and clients' eyeglasses.
- Show patients how to insert, remove, and care for their contact lenses.
- Repair damaged frames.
- Reconcile monthly statements.
- Attach Fresnel prism to lenses as directed by the doctor.
- Able todetermine patient’s CL prescription based on current MRX and Keratometry readings is a plus.
- Able to determine type of CL, base curve, based on patients’ needs and prescription is a plus.
