We are looking for a Cassandra Database Administrator to support the team.

Duration: 5 months

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
Minimum 3 years hands-on experience with setting up Cassandra cluster and administrative expertise in a multi data center architecture.
Strong understanding of complex inner workings of Cassandra, (gossip protocol, hinted handoffs, read repairs, Merkle trees.)
A deep understanding of Cassandra design principals, cluster connectivity, security and the factors that affect distributed system performance.
Experience operating multi-system, web-based applications in microservice architectures.
Basic understanding of Linux/Unix system components and low-level workings.
Basic understanding of Java-based technologies.
Hands-on experience with setting up Cassandra cluster and administrative expertise in a multi data center architecture.
Basic understanding of Linux/Unix system components and low-level workings.
Experience operating multi-system, web-based applications in microservice architectures.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Cassandra Database Administrator in the Portal DevOps team has the responsibility to ensure smooth operation and up-time of Cassandra and other services associated with it.
Responsibilities also extend to ensure optimal performance of our Luna Portal services and infrastructure.
Candidate will maintain and support systems operation and performance in production and lab environments, with a special focus on managing the existing Cassandra database environment, guide operational upgrades and advancements in the Cassandra system and extend documentation and train teams members in Cassandra administration.
The ideal candidate will bring rich knowledge of database administration best practices and design patterns, along with a strong software engineering background, and is experienced with high volume, mission critical production applications.
Handle Cassandra administration, operations, and architecture for a multi data center environment including Production and Test networks.
Champion all Cassandra environment builds, including design, capacity planning, cluster setup, upgrades, performance tuning and ongoing monitoring.
Design and development of Cassandra debugging and monitoring tools and solutions to support and streamline everyday operations of the Portal DevOps team by creating key performance metrics, measuring the utilization and overall health of the cluster.
Work with DevOps and other teams to troubleshoot and solve complex problems in a timely and accurate manner, find root-causes, implement solutions, and contribute to incident reports.
Fluency in automation and systems programming to solve complex operational problems associated with running large scale, multi-tenant, production and lab environments.
Manage backup and recovery functions.
Proactively monitor and setup alerting mechanism for both database and supporting hardware to ensure system health and maximum availability.
Contribute to the overall design and architecture of the Luna Platform by providing insight on best operational practices, as part of the product life cycle and operate in an agile SDLC model (SCRUM) in collaboration with QA, Product Operations and Other Engineering teams.
Provide on call support to triage and resolve issues in production platforms.
