Maintains all computerized, microprocessor, electronic, and pneumatic based controls, ensuring proper operations are in order to provide a comfortable and reliable ambiance to campus buildings, by controlling and administering operations for all automated building and energy management systems.

Implementing solutions to building problems using automation technology; assist in developing and implementing standards and specifications for the construction, operation and maintenance of automated building systems.
Monitoring the operation of automated building systems such as Energy Management Systems, HVAC controllers, lighting controllers and fire alarms; diagnose and repair malfunctioning automated building systems; evaluate current programs and recommends modifications for improvement of HVAC; reviewing plans and providing suggestions and feedback to Physical Plant team during the design phase of projects.
Implementing and maintaining computerized databases; implementing upgrades to automated building systems; providing technical support to the Physical Plant office involving the management of construction projects containing automated building systems.
Assisting in evaluating the effectiveness of current energy management strategies and building automation controls.
Participating in the evaluation and selection of new and replacement hardware and software for automated building systems.
Performs installation, repair and preventive maintenance on all campus HVAC equipment.
Responds as needed to emergency events/situations related to weather, violence/terrorism, or mechanical breakdowns.
Position is required to work a reasonable amount of overtime as determined by the college.
Performs other duties at the discretion of management.
Works as directed by the Maintenance Mechanic Foreman and/or Manager of Technical Trades.
Works generally on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, control systems, equipment and mechanical devices and systems. Maintains or repairs heating boilers, pumps, tanks and equipment.
Inspects and services cooling towers, condensers, compressors, pumps, motors, fans and other parts of major air conditioning systems. Will be required to report major malfunctions to management.
Works with or coordinates work performed by various service contractors on air conditioning, water treatment, boiler treatment, etc.
Seven years of work experience as a skilled technician in HVAC operations and maintenance, including five years maintaining a computer based HVAC system and an energy management program. Knowledge of and experience with building automation controls similar to or the same as those currently being used on campus, Siemens Controls. The campus also has a stand-alone DDC (Direct Digital Control) system from Hansa Mechanical, Germany. Formal specialized training in DDC controls, electronics and/or energy management. High school diploma or degree from a Vocational/Technical School. Associates degree in HVAC is preferred. Commercial, industrial or facilities work environment experience is required. Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of OSHA & lead regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE), and fall hazards.
Ability to read and understand blueprints.
Good working knowledge of the National Electrical Code
Willingness to further knowledge and expertise in field through training and course work.
Ability to maintain cooperative, professional, and respectful working relationships with all employees, contractors, vendors, and business partners of the college.
Ability to work off of a ladder, scaffolding, and or areal lift.
