What You’ll Get to Do:
The successful candidate will work closely with Engineers and Designers, incorporating their engineering background as a basis to develop and analyze new designs, as well as drawing on their knowledge of complex, precision machining to create CNC programs for the fabrication of marine propulsors, prototype vehicles, and associated lab instrumentation and hardware.
More About the Role:
Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools, a variety of CNC machines, and many specialized or advanced tools in order to perform precision machining operations. Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
Use AutoCAD Inventor and Siemens NX in the development of prototype designs and toolpath programs
Set up and operate complex milling jobs with minimal supervision ensuring part conforms to specifications and requirements. Set machine coordinates or index points per CNC documents, including cutter offset/compensations, tool heights and probes, using controller keyboard, dial indicator or digital readout, height blocks, shims and edge finders
Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties and mathematics. Design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs
Ability to inspect work produced, including 1st pc inspection, development of inspection techniques, and inspection documents. Perform in-process and completed work inspections to verify dimensions using standard measuring instruments such as micrometers, depth gages, height gages, calipers, and coordinate measuring machines. Measure, examine, and test in-process using a Renishaw probe system in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications during fabrication
Interact with the customer on a collaborative basis
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
0 to 5 years’ experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Naval, Marine, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering
The ability to work with minimal supervision
Familiar with best practices in machining technologies and applying them to meet project and quality requirements
Ability to collect, analyze, process, and logically integrate available information into an efficient fabrication process
Familiar with using Siemens NX software for design work
Experienced in programming with MatLab, C++, and LabVIEW
Experienced with operating 3D printers and CNC machines
