Role:

The Admissions Specialist gathers records and enters required information into the student information system to complete the admissions process. This position requires attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Enters data into the student information system according to established guidelines to ensure consistency and accuracy of information.
  • Evaluates test scores of students to determine eligibility criteria for specific programs.
  • Processes admissions applications submitted.
  • Reviews transcripts from other colleges and universities.
  • Makes residency determinations on student applications.
  • Responds to questions from prospective students and/or contacts applicants to gather additional data.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrates expertise regarding admissions requirements and procedures.
  • Ensures academic documents are processed quickly and accurately with zero errors.
  • Consistently provides a high level of service to prospective students, current students, and other members of the community, especially during high volume or peak enrollment seasons.
  • Interacts with students in a positive, encouraging manner.
  • Complies with all laws and regulations regarding higher education and student records.
  • Works as an effective member of the Admissions and Registrar team.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience:

Up to six months of similar or related experience.

Preferred: Previous collegiate experience in admissions or registrar's office and/or two to three years experience with student information systems.

Education:

A high school education or GED.

Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree.

Interpersonal Skills:

Work normally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate associates generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (students, visitors or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.

Other Skills:

Must demonstrate the ability to analyze transcripts and student records to make decisions according to defined rules or criteria.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to use Microsoft Office to complete assigned tasks.

Ability to learn and use new applications and computer systems as needed.

Physical Requirements:

The work is typically sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, etc. No special physical demands are required to do the work.

Work Environment:

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a typical office.
