GoTriangle, the regional public transportation organization for Wake, Durham and Orange counties in North Carolina, is seeking a dynamic professional with strong leadership skills, a demonstrated capacity to lead multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of complex projects, an ability to work independently on multiple program objectives, and strong interpersonal skills to lead a Transit implementation plan for Wake County.

This senior level position will have responsibility for coordinating all activities associated with implementing a comprehensive plan for this fast paced, high growth county. Each day, fifty-eight (58) people move into the Wake County area and the transit plan approved by Wake County voters will support this phenomenal growth.

The Director has coordinating responsibilities which include planning, scheduling, budgeting, contracting, as well as public engagement, financial management, policy development and performance reporting for activities funded through Transit Plan related revenues. This position will oversee development of commuter rail service in the greater Triangle Region. There is a potential for future duties to include management of design, engineering and construction of capital projects. The Director will work closely with transit stakeholders throughout Wake County and the region to develop consensus concerning Transit Plan goals and objectives.

The applicant who meets the qualifications and who exhibits the collaborative skills needed will be in a position to elevate transportation within Wake County, resulting in a positive impact for the region.

Applicant must have experience in:

  • Financing, planning, implementing, and organizing a regional public transportation planning program;
  • Federal Transit Administration (FTA) procedures for the development and implementation of New Starts and Small Starts Programs;
  • Developing and reporting of annual work plans and budgets;
  • Delivering presentations to the public, Boards and other elected and appointed officials;
  • Maintaining effective working relationships
  • Leading teams in developing and maintaining project schedules;
  • Overseeing consultant studies including the preparation of requests for proposals, and providing oversight to ensure all deliverables, timeframes and cost parameters are met.

A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four year college/university in a technical discipline such as Business, Engineering, Public Administration, Planning or Construction Management, and a minimum of ten years of experience at a supervisory level in a transportation or engineering organization is required. A Master’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Planning, Engineering or related program is preferred. Experience in managing project development of rail projects or BRT projects including negotiation with railroads and other stakeholders is a plus.
