**Job Title:** Certified IV Pharmacy Technician
**Job Summary:**
The IV Pharmacy Technician will assist in the preparation of IV admixtures and ensure
continuous quality improvement in collaboration with pharmacists and other healthcare
professionals. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to protocols, and
the ability to work independently within our Infusion Pharmacy in Williamsburg, NY. The
technician will also perform various clerical duties related to pharmacy operations and
contribute to maintaining a clean and organized pharmacy environment.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Order Processing and Review:
- Assist in processing treatment orders accurately and efficiently.
- Ensure medications are prepared to the highest standards of quality and safety.
- Maintain neatness and proper labeling of final dosage forms according to established standards.
2. Medication Preparation and Distribution:
- Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, prepare, package, and distribute medications.
- Select drugs from stock for preparation; count, pour, or mix pharmaceuticals.
- Place pharmaceutical products in appropriate containers and affix labels to containers.
- Package and ship medication packages according to established protocols.
3. Information System Proficiency:
- Understand and effectively use institutional and pharmacy information systems.
- Identify and correct issues within the system, with appropriate follow-up.
- Receive prescriptions, obtain necessary information, and enter
- Prescription data into a computerized system to create a patient profile.
4. Supervision and Quality Assurance:
- Assist pharmacists in the production of various admixtures while ensuring precise labeling.
- Help manage time efficiently to maintain high productivity.
5. General Management:
- Monitor prescription inventory for expired pharmaceuticals and facilitate returns.
- Assist in maintaining, preparing, and cleaning compounding supplies and equipment.
- Record keeping
- Stocking, restocking IV areas with appropriate supplies
6. Communication and Collaboration:
- Establish and maintain effective communication with pharmacy staff, healthcare disciplines, and patients.
- Provide excellent customer service to all patients and medical professionals, both via phone and in person.
- Assist in maintaining pharmacy filing systems, including hard copies, signature logs, and invoices.
7. Medication-Related Problem Resolution:
- Identify and help prevent potential and actual medication-related problems.
- Ensure compliance with USP-797 & USP-800 Guidelines for all processes and environments.
8. General Duties:
- Help maintain the pharmacy in a clean and orderly condition.
- Prepare and track delivery instructions and invoices to assist delivery staff and common carriers responsible for home or office delivery.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Licensed Pharmacy Technician in New York
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Pharmacy technician certification is required
- 2+ years of experience working as an IV pharmacy technician is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to
- Effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook).
