The Strategic Planning Manager will join the Strategic Planning & Transactions (SP&T) group which is responsible for corporate strategy, transaction management and execution, capital planning, and other strategic processes.
The individual will lead strategic initiatives, complete modeling, analytical, and presentation development support, and help with diligence and integration activities related to M&A. The person will support varied and diverse strategy related projects that relate to products, markets, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, performance, competitor analysis, economic trends, and market opportunities. The work includes collaboration across the company from a functional perspective (operational, financial, legal) as well as globally. The position also provides an opportunity for personal growth and development to advance either within the SP&T organization or in other functional areas.
The Manager will be expected to provide their strategic perspective and develop new, creative, and advanced analysis that the executive leadership team will rely on to make strategic decisions impacting the direction of the entire company. This position provides exposure at the highest levels of the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Possess an understanding of corporate finance, financial modeling, and analytical tools (DCF, IRR, payback)
Support special projects including internal development and strategic planning on an as-needed basis
Create presentations and other communication materials for executive management, CEO, and Board of Directors meetings
Analyze corporate financial performance and competitive market position on an absolute and relative-to-peers’ basis
Lead diligence efforts on M&A projects including working with functional teams, external support consultants, bankers and interacting with counterparties on multiple transactions
Analyze synergies and costs to achieve for M&A through diligence, challenging as necessary
Support planning activities for integration of acquisitions and for separation of divestitures
Conduct external research and develop strategies for identifying and evaluating target markets and companies to support LYB’s growth plans
Perform competitive and value chain analysis by industry and sector
Provide support in process standardization of strategy, M&A, and capital planning activities
Conduct other projects as directed.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field of study, required
MBA / CFA or CPA preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered
5+ years of experience
Must have experience at a major accounting or strategy firm or with an investment bank focusing on M&A and/or industry analysis
Superior analytical, problem solving, accounting and financial modelling skills. Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills required.
Must be able to work effectively with strategic planning team and other departments on cross-functional assignments.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, writing and presentation skills are a must as this position prepares materials directly for senior executives and board members.
Must be creative and thoughtful, yet able to manage details and reach a clear, concise conclusion in a timely manner.
Must demonstrate initiative and ability to conceptualize and communicate complex issues.
Must be able to influence decisions while driving consensus and alignment.
Self starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with limited supervision
Possess an understanding of the chemical industry and the drivers of its performance
