About New Mexico Military Institute:NMMI is a state-supported, co-educational college preparatory high school and junior college, complete with Junior and Senior ROTC programs. With a Corps of Cadets numbering up to 1000 young men and women, NMMI provides an accredited college preparatory curriculum on the high school level and a transfer junior college, operating within a conductive military environment.
Position Under the supervision of the Deputy Commandant for Operations, the Command Post Watch Officer supports the Commandant of Cadets to ensure the safety, security, health and welfare, and accountability of the Corps of Cadets during the watch. The Command Post Watch Officer has regular contact with the Deputy Commandant for Support (DCS), the Deputy Commandant for Training and Service (DCT&S), the Commandant of Cadets, and the Commandant’s Staff. This is a non-exempt, 10-month, full-time position. The Salary is $32,000.00 ($18.46 per hour). The job description is available upon request.
Tasks:
· The Command Post Watch Officer is responsible for all Command Post functions during his/her watch.
· Must be familiar with the Blue Book (Cadet Handbook), the Parent/Cadet Contract, The Plan of the Day, the Corps training schedules, and Letters of Instruction for the Corps as it relates to events and activities.
· The Command Post Watch Officer will routinely advise the Troop Leadership Advisor, Squadron Leadership Advisor, or the Deputy Commandant concerning the health and welfare of all cadets as stated in the Institute’s Blue Book.
· Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills:
· Ability to obtain knowledge of NMMI rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures, including a detailed understanding of the “Blue Book,” the Parent Cadet Contract, and a general understanding and familiarity with the role of the Troop Leadership Advisor.
· Good oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and with minimal guidance.
· Possess the desire and ability to work varied types of shifts: day, evening, and late-night
Qualifications:
Required:
· High School Diploma.
· Demonstrate the ability to communicate orally or in writing.
· Ability to perform basic computer skills.
· Computer/information systems management and experience with automation.
· Possess or be able to obtain a New Mexico driver’s license and pass a sponsored defensive driving course. Maintain driving/licensing proficiency on selected school-owned vehicles.
Preferred:
· Associate degree and military experience or associate degree and experience in a military school.
· Bilingual.
