JUST Capital is supported by some of the country's premier foundations, including the Ford Foundation and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and has forged partnerships with an array of elite research institutions, including MIT, Stanford, and NORC at the University of Chicago. The organization is chaired by eminent hedge fund manager and philanthropist Paul Tudor Jones and is led by a high-profile board.
JUST Capital is seeking three junior research analysts: two of the positions will be supporting the Stakeholder Leads and one position will support the Data Leads on the research team. Candidates must have a passion for just corporate behavior, which is at the core of JUST Capital's mission. Candidates should have interests in pursuing data-oriented research in at least two of the following areas:
Communities, focused on U.S. job creation, business with abusive countries, jobs in communities, fair taxes, human rights, community growth, and charitable giving
Customers, focused on non-harmful products, quality products, customer privacy, fair pricing, fair customer treatment, advertising and labeling, and customer experience
Environment, focused on pollution reduction, environmental management, and resource efficiency
Shareholders, focused on ethical leadership, compliance with laws and regulations, and investor return
Workers, focused on fair wages, living wages, benefits and work-life balance, diversity, equity, and inclusion, quality jobs, career development, safe workplace, supportive workplace, and CEO-to-worker pay
The primary responsibilities include but not limited to:
Conduct background research on metric development (identify best practices, sources, and subject-matter experts, conduct sample testing data collection)
Collect company data on topics we measure at JUST (e.g. whether companies have a Paid Time Off policy, set environmental targets, or have second chance programs hiring persons with criminal records)
Help train summer interns on data collection protocols
Assist with responding to companies who give us feedback on the data we collected
Conduct literature reviews and analysis of the data collection, analyze data and draft issue briefs
Stay abreast of recent developments in JUST-related fields that they support and brief relevant team members
Prepare summary statistics, basic analysis (i.e. correlations), and data visualization in support of other teams (including liaising with the tech team)
Cross-check outputs of data-related tasks
Maintain datasets, code bases, and toolkit hygiene
Oversee the research team's use of third party data platforms and help troubleshoot issues
The ideal candidate will possess the following professional experience/qualifications
Deep commitment to just business behaviors and activities
Excellent written, analytical and verbal communication skills
Keen attention to detail and accuracy
Eagerness to learn about a broad range of issues
Comfortable working under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with, at times, shifting priorities
Experience with ESG, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, or JUST topics as it pertains to workers, communities, customers and/or products, environment, ethical leadership, corporate governance, or shareholders
Experience collecting large amounts of data
Prior experience with or exposure to qualitative and quantitative research
Coding experience (R, Python, STATA) or a willingness to learn coding
Exposure to statistics, econometrics, or mathematics
Primary and/or secondary research experience either at the graduate level or in a professional setting, as it pertains to just business behaviors and activities
Minimum of an undergraduate degree in/background in social science, political/public affairs, corporate responsibility, or business/corporate behavior
1-3 years of postgraduate professional or academic experience
Ability to take initiative and be self-directed
