We assist our clients in navigating the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) process by offering support in; proposal preparation, contracting and business development.
We are seeking an experienced Defense Consultant to drive federal growth strategies for innovative technology clients in the defense sector. As a subject matter expert, you will manage a portfolio of clients, conducting thorough research to identify optimal opportunities within the Department of Defense (DoD) and developing tailored growth strategies. Your role will involve representing clients in discussions with DoD partners, collaborating with Project Managers to prepare supporting materials, and maintaining long-term relationships by understanding each client's technology, goals, and challenges. You will provide strategic insights, navigate conflicts, and communicate effectively through meetings and timely responses to inquiries. A strong background in defense consulting, knowledge of DoD acquisition processes, and excellent interpersonal skills are essential for success in this position.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in defense consulting, a deep understanding of DoD acquisition processes, and excellent interpersonal skills.
What Will You Be Responsible For?
- Manage and maintain strong working relationships with a portfolio of clients.
- Build network of Government Customers and others for Small Business through email, phone calls, and in-person meetings
- Develop deep relationships with Spark Cells and other operator-level orgs to identify problem sets and use cases of warfighter
- Develop supporting collateral to assist conversations between client and DoD customers and end-users
- Effectively communicate and train team on defense needs and trends within the operator level of DoD
- Collaborate with the Sales, Business Development, and Project Managers to identify and grow opportunities
- Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor at all times
- Other duties as assigned
- Moderate travel required (25%)
What Qualifications Do You Need?
● 4 years minimum of combined Department of Defense (Dod) and Industry experience
● Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
● Experience managing client relationships
● Ability to leverage DoD Acquisition knowledge to drive revenue growth for small businesses
● Ability to breakdown strategic ideas into actionable tasks
● Strong customer service skills
● Excellent clear, concise, and direct communication via written and oral forms
● Strong presentation skills
● Proactive approach to driving results for clients
● Demonstrated sense of responsibility and ability to work independently
● Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty
● Familiarity with military organizational structure and culture
● Growth mindset and adaptability to keep up with frequently changing industry
● Moderate travel required (25%)
Pay Structure and Commission: The starting salary for the Defense Consultant is $55k - $65k with uncapped commission. The exact compensation structure will be explained in the interview process. Schedule is Monday - Thursday in office, Friday is always Remote. We are open to a fully remote candidate outside of Houston, TX.
