Under the general direction of the Senior Director of Operations, the manager assumes responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating and managing assigned operations. As a member of the management team, responsibilities include planning and control activities, policy and procedure development and enforcement, staff development and evaluation including the day-to-day management of all technical operations, along with project oversight. Responsibilities also include working with vendors/partners, other UPMC staff on the development of software and implementation/training and temporary support of same.
Act as point person for the department to assist in the management, coordination, and implementation of operations.
Deliver presentations on projects to management, peers and subordinates as required.
Develop comprehensive goals, objectives and annual plans for department, administering policies and procedures with oversight of Senior Director of Operations.
Direct operations, including business/strategic planning and development, execution, implementation and support.
Establish collaborative working relationships with executive management and UPMC as projects permit in order to meet the needs of the stakeholders and organization.
Evaluate processes on an on-going basis, analyze for efficiency and streamlining opportunities, and recommend and implement courses of action.
Make decisions and evaluate outcomes with adequate knowledge, information and consideration of stakeholders and member of the department.
Manage and mentor staff assigned as direct reports and conduct meaningful performance reviews in a timely manner.
Oversee facility operations, scientific and non-scientific equipment, and overall research infrastructure
Oversee the recruitment, selection, training and retention of competent staff to support the Operations team and Research Institute.
Participate in contract negotiations and re-negotiations with vendors to facilitate cost-savings. Work in conjunction with UPMC Supply Chain and other departments, when necessary.
Promote professional self-education through internal and external seminars and classes; participate in continuing education programs, serve as instructor and mentor.
Protect the integrity and confidentiality of all data and information available and used through physical or electronic means.
Provide customer oriented services to both internal and external stakeholders.
Report status of projects and staff activity on a regular basis.
Responsible for developing operating and capital budget projections relative to Operations and assessing impact of those projections upon goals/objectives.
Undertake special projects as directed by the Senior Director of Operations.
Bachelors degree in Business or related field
Masters Degree preferred
5-7 years of experience managing healthcare or research operations or equivalent
Experience with Information Technology, Human Resources, Facilities Management or Project Management.
Prior experience with Human Resources is strongly preferred
Excellent written and verbal communications required making effective presentations to management, staff and other stakeholders
Leadership experience with Operations is required with prior management experience in Research Operations preferred
Prior experience with budget responsibility, business planning and strategy development, client, project and personnel management is required
Extensive problem-solving experience and management of information services and operational processes required.
