Position Summary
A camp Nurse ensures the health and safety of all on-site campers, team members and visitors. The Nurse also obtains and maintains health records and documents required by ESF, state agencies and accreditation agencies in addition to providing basic first aid, administering medications and responding to emergencies as necessary

What will you do all summer (in addition to keeping your campers and fellow team members safe and healthy)? A Nurse is responsible for:

Collecting and maintaining health forms for campers and team members
Reviewing, storing and administering camper medication; ensuring compliance with ESF standards, policies, guidelines and procedures
Overseeing the health and safety of campers and team members participating in camp activities
Monitoring, evaluating and following appropriate ESF health and safety procedures

Position Objective/Purpose
ESF is hiring motivated leaders with prior experience supervising children who believe in ESF’s mission, build positive relationships and ensure the well-being of others.

Position Scope Factors
Oversee the health and safety for all campers (ages 3 – 16), team members and visitors from mid-June through mid-August.

Essential Job Responsibilities
Provide care to campers and team members as needed and within guidelines set by ESF, camp licensing requirements, nurse license requirements and any other applicable licensing organization
Collect, review and upload health forms for campers and team members
Receive, store and administer camper medication; ensure compliance with ESF standards, policies and procedures
Ensure the health and safety of campers and team members participating in all camp activities
Maintain Nurse’s log for all camper visits and calls
Input logs and other requisite health information into CRM/camper database (upload, scan and print documents as needed)
Review the following week’s medical rosters with Directors and prepare fanny packs
Evaluate and follow ESF health and safety procedures; communicate these policies to colleagues and camp families
Educate team members on health and safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to: basic first aid, epi-pen and rescue inhaler administration
Respond to parents/guardians and team members regarding their medical questions
Inform camper’s parents/guardians of any medications or snacks that need to be replenished
Serve as a key resource for emergency response procedures
Manage camp Nurse’s office/area; ensure the office/area is clean, organized and well-maintained
Maintain supply inventory; order medical supplies as necessary
Work effectively and collaborate with co-workers including other on-site Nurses, the Nursing Director at Headquarters office, Site Director, leadership team and on-call Medical Doctor
Complete assigned paperwork
Participate in ESF pre-camp trainings and opening activities

Experience Requirements
Pediatric nursing experience required
Proven success working with children and young adults with medical conditions, including but not limited to; food allergies, diabetes, seizure disorders, etc.
Proven success in working with children and young adults with special needs and/or disabilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to use CRM database
Certification Requirements
Valid license as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
BLS/CPR/AED certification
First Aid certification preferred
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
Education Requirements
A certificate or diploma from an accredited nursing or training program [i.e. an associate’s degree in nursing (ADN), a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing (BSN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN) certificate] is required
Reporting Relationships
Reports directly to and takes direction from Site Director regarding daily camp operations
Also reports to and takes direction from the Director of Nursing and Camp Medical Doctor regarding on-site nursing practices
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Good physical condition which enables candidate to execute all responsibilities associated with this position
Push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campus
Work inside the Nurse’s office upright and mobile for six (6) to eight (8) hours per day
Must have the physical capability to see (near and far), bend, kneel and carry individuals during emergency situations
Respond to emergency situations (indoors and outdoors) which may include running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and ascending stairs without undue exertion
Possess physical capacity to fulfill all essential job functions – responsibilities listed above
