West Chester University of Pennsylvania's Department of Biology invites applicants for the position of Cell & Molecular Biologist. This is a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position and can begin either January or August 2019 depending on the successful candidate's availability. Actual starting salary is commensurate with experience.
Teaching: Teaching responsibilities include upper division courses and/or labs in Cell & Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, and introductory level biology courses. The candidate may also be required to develop an undergraduate or graduate course in their area of expertise. The teaching load at WCU is 12 student contact hours per week per semester.
Advising: To advise biology majors regarding academic planning and scheduling. Faculty must schedule 5 hours of advising/consultation time each week for students.
Research: To establish an active, externally funded research program involving undergraduate and/or graduate students. Faculty are expected to present results at national meetings and publish in refereed journals.
Service: To contribute to the university community and the department by serving on committees, helping to recruit potential students, and performing other services as needed.
An earned doctorate in Cell & Molecular Biology or related discipline is required; candidate must be qualified to teach courses and/or labs in Cell & Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, and introductory level biology courses.
Finalists must successfully complete the interview process, including a teaching demonstration and a research seminar.

Approximately 14,000 undergraduate and 2,800 graduate students attend West Chester University (WCU), located 25 miles west of Philadelphia in scenic southeastern Pennsylvania. The Department of Biology has 21 full time tenure-track faculty, approximately 750 undergraduate Biology majors in 6 different concentrations, and a Master of Science program (thesis and non-thesis) averaging around 50 graduate students. The department has well-equipped facilities for Cell & Molecular Biology research with shared thermocyclers, gel imaging systems, real-time PCR machines, NanoDrop spectrophotometers, fluorescence plate readers, centrifuges, and ultra-low temperature freezers. Microscopy equipment includes two epifluorescence microscopes (with phase contrast and Nomarski DIC) equipped with color cameras, a laser microdissection microscope, and scanning and transmission electron microscopes. The department also houses a microtechniques laboratory, tissue culture hoods, and CO2 and bacterial incubators.
