Orchestra of St. Luke’s (OSL) seeks a focused and experienced professional to lead business development and facility management of the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, OSL’s state-of-the-art, 20,000 square-foot rehearsal, recording, presentation, and broadcast facility in Midtown Manhattan.

Opened in 2011, the DiMenna Center is the home of Orchestra of St. Luke’s and a bustling rental facility providing affordable services to hundreds of ensembles and thousands of musicians annually. Clients range from the world’s leading artists to youth and community-focused music programs. The DiMenna Center houses one of the top commercial recording studios in New York City, where major film, television, and Broadway scores are recorded on a regular basis.

The Director of the DiMenna Center ensures the fulfillment of the facility’s mission by integrating the activities of its multiple stakeholders into the smooth, safe, and professional functioning of the building and a thriving rental business.

Duties and responsibilities

Business Development

Create and manage a $1,000,000 annual budget. Meet DiMenna Center revenue targets and mission priorities.

Create and execute a long-range revenue development plan that balances OSL’s needs, the DiMenna Center’s mission and potential, and the evolving marketplace.

Foster client relationships and provide excellent customer service. Monitor client satisfaction and be responsive to issues.

Manage OSL’s relationship with The DiMenna Center’s resident recording engineers, Audiosmith Digital Solutions, to develop the growth and functionality of the commercial recording business within the context of the nonprofit activities of The DiMenna Center.

Work with OSL Director of Marketing and Communications to raise the profile of The DiMenna Center and support its activities through listings, advertising, social media, website, publications, and PR.

Develop and implement new ways to use The DiMenna Center that advance OSL’s mission and business and increase its impact on the musical life of New York City and beyond.

Oversee rental and vendor contracts. Perform regular reconciliation with Finance. Provide accurate weekly financial reports and regular forecasts to the Executive Director and VP of Finance and Administration. Present to OSL Board of Directors and subcommittees as requested.

Facilities Management

Ensure a safe, welcoming, and professional environment that meets the needs of artists, renters, students, visitors, vendors, and staff of The DiMenna Center for Classical Music.

Create and execute a short and long-term facility maintenance plan to ensure The DiMenna Center meets the evolving needs of OSL and New York City’s musical industry.

Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, codes, and standards for building operations and safety, including NYC Department of Buildings and FDNY codes.

Ensure that all OSL-produced activities at The DiMenna Center are executed at the highest professional standards, on budget, and in a timely fashion.

The DiMenna Center is part of a two-unit condominium with The Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC). The Director of the DiMenna Center works with the BAC Director of Production and Operations to manage the condo employees and budget, maintain the shared condo spaces, and staff the Condo Board.

Supervise two full-time staff (Client Services Manager, Technical & Operations Coordinator), a part-time staff of 8-10, and, with the BAC Director of Production and Operation, co-manage the condo staff of 15 (property manager/chief engineer, engineers, security, reception, porters, and bookkeeper).

Process non-rental invoices and bills and create regular expense reports for the Center.


· 8-10 years experience in professional performing arts or recording venue management. Knowledge of classical music and acoustics are advantages.

· Strong financial and personnel management skills.

· Proven track record of revenue generation.

· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Strong organizational and time management skills.

· Knowledge of ArtsVision database helpful.

Working conditions

Busy open-office environment in addition to a flexible rehearsal/recording space which operates seven days a week, approximately 50 weeks a year.

Physical requirements

Able to move and lift chairs, racks and other equipment throughout the center.
