The Library Assistant performs a variety of detail oriented, paraprofessional, and user focused services including:

 Greets, directs, answers telephone and provides general information to library users, routing as appropriate for questions related to research and assignments.

 Perform all circulation functions; including laptop lending.

 Understands, communicates and enforces library policies and procedures.

 Provide general assistance to students in the use of the library’s electronic resources, photocopy machine, computers, laptops and printers.

 Replace paper and ink cartridges when necessary.

 Perform a variety of tasks related to stacks maintenance and collection management. Including: sorting, shelving, shifting, processing and collection inventory activities.

 Open and closing procedures of the Library during assigned shifts.

 Supervise the use of and activity within the library in the absence of a Librarian.

 Other Duties as assigned and appropriate for the job function.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Minimum requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent certification.

Associate Degree or evidence of post-secondary coursework, preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 Ability to meet attendance and punctuality requirements.

 Proficiency with computer applications including, integrated library management systems, Microsoft Office products, and cations, or the ability to learn and use PeopleSoft.

 Prior hardware/software troubleshooting experience.

 Effective communication skills, adaptability, diplomacy and tact in all dealings with library users, staff and supervisor.

 Ability to understand and interpret library policies and procedures.

 Ability to work independently.

 Ability to develop a climate of teamwork and cooperation.

 Ability to make sound decisions commensurate with level of individuals function

 Ability to work a reasonably flexible schedule.
