Geospatial Analyst

(NLT), a leading provider of integrated Data Science, Geospatial, Cloud, and Agile Software Engineering services based in Washington DC, is currently seeking a full-time Geospatial Analyst to join a team of talented professionals designing, building, maintaining and disseminating disaster-related geospatial data products, and conducting advanced analytics a that support missions critical to our nation’s communities, environment, economy, and public safety.
Working in an exciting multi-disciplinary environment among a team of talented and dedicated professionals, the candidate will help identify, collect and ingest a range of geospatial data, develop spatio-temporal models, design and deploy web-based maps, dashboards, and online data services that help improve outcomes and equity related to public health, economic prosperity, environmental practices, homeland security, and emergency management, and more. A significant focus of the work will involve design and development of evidence-based data science solutions to help organizations with climate change and hazard risk modeling for disaster preparedness response, and resiliency.
Candidates will support gathering, designing, developing, testing/validating, and implementing complex data analysis processes, and visualizing complex data. This will involve performing remote sensing analysis on a range of aerial and satellite imagery sources and maintaining geospatial databases and repositories of nationwide geospatial data sets in vector and raster formats. The candidate will also support the design, development and deployment of new maps, graphics, visualizations, and web-based storymaps and dashboards for public dissemination This position requires a leader, innovator, and problem-solver with solid data analysis and engineering experience and expertise with a range of data, including various vector and raster imagery formats. This position also requires experience working in Agile project teams, innovating new solutions, coordinating projects between multiple teams with many stakeholders, and a pro-active, enthusiastic communication style.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support the integration and analysis of different types and formats of hazard and risk data.
Utilize GIS software to develop, maintain, and update geospatial datasets, maps and reports
Support the development of web-based geospatial visualizations, maps, and dashboards.
Ensure the accuracy and quality of geospatial data through rigorous validation and verification processes.
Assist in the coordination between various stakeholders to effectively and efficiently curate and manage geospatial data.
Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations to communicate complex geospatial data.
Support the development of user guides, training materials, and technical manuals for geospatial tools and data.
Manage and maintain large-scale nationwide geospatial datasets, including remote sensing imagery (SAR, LiDAR, and EO) and derived products.
Develop and automate geoprocessing workflows to produce products that improve disaster management.
Support the automation and incorporation of models into web and mobile applications, decision support tools, etc.
Identify authoritative applications and design web applications (dashboards, experience builders, and web applications) to support disaster management.
Engineer geospatial pipelines from backend to front end, incorporating both internal data stores to feature services and live feeds.
Advise and evaluate best available geospatial datasets, workflows, software, and platform to use for unique client needs.
Skilled in managing websites on platforms like WordPress, AGOL Hub, and Squarespace
Skills:
Thorough understanding of geospatial data management and analysis, including analysis and interpretation of remote sensing data
Experience curating, evaluating, maintaining, cleansing and analyzing diverse types and formats of datasets, as well as experience in ETL, data processing, data warehousing, and management.
Ability to design methodologies and overcome challenges
Experience building visualizations, maps, dynamic charts, dashboards, etc.
Strong skills with a variety of GIS software including ESRI ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online (AGOL), ArcGIS Enterprise, QGIS PostGres, PostGIS, ENVI, Google Earth Engine, etc.
Familiarity with programming, coding, and scripting data pipelines and processing solutions, including in cloud-based environments (e.g. AWS)
Python skills and familiarity with geospatial Python libraries (e.g.,: arcpy, geopandas, shapely, rasterio) is desired
Experience working with both vector and raster data, digital terrain models, weather data, flood data, imagery/remote sensing (including SAR, EO, satellite and aerial imagery), and standard GIS data formats such as shapefiles, geodatabases, feature classes, geotiffs etc.
Familiarity with development, application and automation of remote sensing data processing
Experience working with different databases and data types (PostGres, SQLServer, Mongo, APIs etc.) is desired but not required.
Familiarity with with tools and platforms for website and content management (including WordPress, AGOL Hub, and Squarespace)
Other:
Experience with Earth science, social, demographic, economics, geophysics, and international work
Experience with flood modeling, hydrology, and climate science
Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
Ability to work in a high-paced consulting environment
Strong writing, communication, and documentation, presentation skills
Candidates must be U.S. Citizens and have the ability to obtain and hold U.S. Government security clearance
