Loudoun County’s Department of Family Services is seeking qualified applicants to join a dynamic team in Adult Services/Adult Protective Services.
This position provides case management services to older adults and adults living with disabilities. In addition, this position will be investigating allegations of self-neglect. This position will work from our Leesburg office, and may work from other locations as needed. Typical hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, although the positions requires flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the program.
Core responsibilities include:
Interpreting laws, policies and regulations as related to Adult Services and Adult Protective Services Programs
Conducting home visits to assess client’s needs, and monitor service delivery;
Responding to and conducting investigations of reports of self-neglect;
Informing clients of related services programs rules/regulations, and right to participate;
Providing case management services;
Providing accurate timely updated entries into required data-systems;
Maintaining professional, confidential case records according to state regulations and agency practice;
Completing necessary federal, state and local planning and reporting requirements;
Coordinating with other agencies and participating in multi-disciplinary and inter-agency teams providing services to clients;
Conducting community presentations and serving as a resource to clients and the community in area of expertise; and
Other duties as assigned
The Ideal Candidate will possess: A broad knowledge of Adult Services and Adult Protective Services programs/procedures; Significant experience working with older adults and/or adults living with disabilities; work experience in a local department of social services preferred; ability to speak Spanish; knowledge of social work theory, casework methods, and community organization/resources. Knowledge of human behavior and the behavioral sciences, particularly concerning human development, aging, family dynamics, and interpersonal relationships. The ability to engage in discussions with the client about all aspects of their life – including money, sex, health, relationships and even terminal illness or death; the ability to respond quickly in a crisis situation; excellent time management skills to include demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize tasks, and work flexible work hours. Excellent communication skills: oral and written. The ability to maintain a balance of objectivity and empathy while dealing with families living in stressful or crisis situations; the skills needed to educate clients in order to change behavior that led to abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Gerontology, Psychology or related field and minimum 3 years related Adult Services/Adult Protective Services experience.
Master's degree and Clinical Licensure preferred.
Performs other duties as assigned and may work from various locations.
May be required to work some evenings and weekends.
