Licensed Assistant Engineer
VanEnkevort Tug & Barge (VTB) is seeking a USCG Licensed Assistant Engineer. Our fleet of Articulated Tug Barges (ATB’s) are some of the newest vessels in operation that specialize in bulk transportation on the Great Lakes. The Assistant Engineer role requires a hands-on approach to machinery maintenance and the skills to troubleshoot and resolve equipment onboard the tugboats and their accompanying barges. The Assistant Engineer position includes the following responsibilities but are not limited to:
Job Responsibilities
· Report to the Chief Engineer daily.
· Stand watch over critical systems on both the tug and barge.
· Knowledgeable of safe operating procedures.
· Perform preventative maintenance on deck and engine machinery.
· Ability to troubleshoot and resolve system and mechanical issues that arise.
· Maintaining the operation and maintenance of vessel systems within requirements of the United States Coast Guard (USCG), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and other pertinent regulatory authorities.
· Ability to work 28/14 or 28/28 rotation during the 10-month sailing season with optional work during winter months based on maintenance projects.
Required Qualifications
· USCG Merchant Mariners Document: 3rd Assistant Engineer (Limited) or higher.
· TWIC Card
· U.S. Passport or ability to obtain Passport within 90 days of employment.
· Ability to gain entrance into Canada via any Great Lakes port or connecting waterway.
· Able to enter secured areas that are regulated by the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA).
· Ability to move about the ATB to perform tasks; climb stairs/ladders and stand for long periods of time.
· Able to effectively collaborate, manage, and work well with a team.
· Possess basic computer skills, strong oral and written communication skills.
· Able to adhere and work within the company’s safety and operating procedures.
Bonus Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
· Familiar with Caterpillar Engines or MaK Engines.
· Experience with Caterpillar Generators, Cummins Generators, and/or Shaft Generators.
· Knowledgeable in hydraulics, conveyor systems, automation, and deck machinery.
· Experience with International Safety Management (ISM) Code.

Pay: $654.00 - $727.41 per day
