The Health Human Resources Office at Tewksbury Hospital is excited to offer a Benefits & Leave Generalist opportunity to a motivated and talented Human Resource professional. The selected applicant will be part of the Benefits and Leave Unit providing HR services to the Northeast Area employees of the Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Department of Mental Health (DMH). This HR professional will receive and respond to inquiries from employees and introduce, guide, and coach employees on the use of benefits. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Scheduling and conducting orientations for new hires, providing information on benefits and various types of leaves available to employees of the Commonwealth as well as information on policies and procedures.
Acting as Group Insurance Coordinator and liaison between the Group Insurance Commission and Health Insurance Providers to ensure proper health care coverage to employees on an ongoing basis.
Audit discrepancy reports administered through the GIC Insurance Commission to ensure that employees are properly billed and have continuous health coverage while out on a leave of absence, and verify billing changes are accurate.
Participate in handling all aspects of open enrollment for Health Insurance, HCSA and DCAP, including distribution of information to employees, responding to inquiries; attending training, and processing changes in HRCMS.
Receive and respond to all types of inquiries and questions about changing health care coverage during annual enrollment period, or about coverage and claims throughout the year, including dependent changes.
Review GIC reports in a timely manner and accurate manner.
Provide assistance to the Benefits & Leaves Supervisor with FMLA, EILB and other leaves to ensure proper record keeping and appropriate usage.
Adhere to existing procedures to assist in the oversight of extended leave through appropriate tracking systems and reports to ensure adequate documentation.
Assist the Benefits & Leave Supervisor with review of medical reports and filing of Employee Injury reports; enter information in the WC database, and notify WC manager of Notice of Injury file as needed.
Update electronic employee records and Payroll in Human Resources Compensation Management System (HR/CMS).
Work with other Human Resources teams in cross-functional projects as required by the Employment Services Manager.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of Human Resource Management including benefits administration, FMLA and Workers’ Compensation, demonstrating up-to-date knowledge of relevant federal and state laws.
Familiarity with collective bargaining units, policies and procedures, and civil service.
Strong consultative and presentation skills to ensure high quality customer service and to provide the best solutions to staff.
Ability to exercise effective judgment and sensitivity to changing needs and situations.
Competence in working effectively in a dynamic, time-sensitive, high volume environment.
Proficient use of Microsoft products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience with an HRIS (preferably HRCMS).
Ability to maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive medical documentation.
