About the Park Site
The Reconstruction Era National Historical Park, formerly Reconstruction Era National Monument is a United States National Historical Park in Beaufort County, South Carolina established by President Barack Obama in January 2017 to preserve and commemorate activities during the Reconstruction Era that followed the American Civil War. The monument was the first U.S. National Monument dedicated to the Reconstruction Era. The John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, signed March 12, 2019, re-designated it as a national historical park.

About the Position
This position will be an integral part of the park team and will focus on community engagement through work with park volunteer program and interpretive and educational programming. Responsibilities include working directly with park staff to manage park volunteer program and being actively involved in volunteer recruitment, training and development of volunteers. The CVA will work with a cadre of volunteers and other NPS staff to provide education, outreach and programming for park visitors and community members

Typical Schedule
Five 8-hour days per week with occasional evening or weekend events included in the schedule

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with an outgoing, friendly attitude who is excited to help manage a growing volunteer program.

Basic Skills & Relevant Experience

Applicants must demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, computer, and organizational skills. Flexibility, attention to detail, teamwork, humor, and a positive attitude are critical.

  • Working or volunteering in a visitor service role or in customer service
  • Coordinating or planning single events and/or programs of multiple events for the general public or specific groups
  • Engaging in community outreach; forging new relationships with local organizations
  • Mentoring/leading/training volunteers or staff in any setting
  • Social media experience and/or Spanish language skills are a plus
  • Computer literate; Microsoft Office

Preferred Majors
All majors are welcome to apply. Relevant majors would be related to History or Education.
