Greenberg Traurig (GT) is seeking an experienced Director to lead a team of professionals charged with devising, developing and ensuring the adoption of innovative strategies and processes that enhance the way GT’s clients’ experience legal service delivery. The candidate will bring strategic thinking, process improvement methodologies, best practices, and a wide breadth of experience devising ways to enhance client experience through process improvement. The candidate’s team will be part of the firm’s Innovative Client Strategies Team, a group of business and legal professionals charged with ensuring that GT’s attorneys have the means of providing their clients the best possible client experience in delivering their legal services. Consideration is being given to filling the position in any of GT's national offices.
The Director will connect one-on-one with lawyers, legal project managers, legal business professionals and clients to provide strategies designed to improve legal process, including but not limited to: legal task plans and schedules, legal task checklists, matter status tracking and reporting processes and software, legal process management support, internal matter management portals and external client matter communication portals.
They will also work closely with other members of GT’s Innovative Client Strategies Team to produce innovative legal service delivery solutions that improve the client experience. This team will focus on Productivity Applications, Strategic Legal Insights, Optimized Matter Staffing, Matter Intelligence (and matter budgeting and financial management), and Culture of Innovation (and adoption).
The Director will work closely with the Innovative Client Strategies Shareholder to communicate and market internally and externally how improving legal process and the use of legal project management concepts, principles, and applications can enhance the client experience. Additionally, work with the team to help set strategic direction for the identification, implementation, and adoption of innovative solutions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Develops, manages and continually improves case and matter management initiatives in collaboration with our clients, lawyers, and legal business professionals.
Builds client-specific, Practice Group (PG) specific, and\or matter-specific solutions, with a view to scalability and leverage across clients, PGs, matter types, etc.
Coordinates legal project teams to manage cases and transactions as projects.
Participates in meetings, pitches and proposals with clients and potential clients as required to support the design and delivery of innovative legal service delivery solutions.
Provides legal project management (LPM) training, mentoring, and coaching through multiple formats, including virtual delivery methods and classroom style training.
Develops templates, documentation, process maps\diagrams, work products, etc. that support improving the legal process, using available tools including (but not limited to) Visio, MS Project, MS Office, One Note, SharePoint, HighQ.
Works with client relationship shareholders and marketing team to develop language and content for RFP responses and pitches, including specific client requests.
Remains current on matter management and process improvement techniques and best practices through internet research, conference attendance, peer networking, etc.
Coordinates with other GT operational and administrative departments to assist legal teams in accomplishing client and attorney team objectives efficiently and effectively.
Actively participates and presents practice improvement successes and opportunities through regular communications, annual management and PG meetings, and other formal and informal meetings.
Researches, evaluates, defines, and develops strategic direction, plans, and roadmaps for the identification, implementation, and adoption of innovative solutions in the delivery of legal services.
Identify performance measures and metrics and report success of LPM and Innovation initiatives to Executive Management.
Travels to GT offices and client locations as required
Performs other work-related duties as identified and assigned.
Skills & Competencies:
Self-starter and self-directed leader
Ability to interface effectively with and influence C-level executives and key Shareholders
Strong understanding of corporate, litigation, real estate, and transactional legal matter steps and activities
Basic understanding of law firm financial terms, metrics, and billing, including systems and processes
Multi-generational training delivery experience\skills a major plus
Ability to multitask across projects and management styles
Excellent time management and communication skills
Qualifications & Prior Experience:
BA or BS degree required; JD and/or MBA preferred
PMP Certification or comparable experience highly desired
Mid- to Large law firm or corporate legal department experience in a similar role preferred and ideal
Extensive experience with legal matter planning and management, with a vision of how ever-changing industry factors and technologies are and will be affecting legal service delivery
Hands-on experience with matter management performance measures, metrics, and the data required to accurately report across all aspects of a legal matter
Skilled with all MS Office applications
