The Associate Instructional Designer reports to the Director of Faculty Engagement. Under the supervision of more experienced IDs, the Associate ID works with faculty at our partner universities to guide the design, development, production, and evaluation of engaging and innovative online courses. This individual collaborates with other instructional designers and web developers to re-envision traditional brick and mortar courses for online delivery, using technology to generate learning experiences that are just as (or more) effective than the on-campus implementation of equivalent content. Guided by instructional design theory, models, and best practices, the Associate Instructional Designer will work as an integral part of a collaborative development team.

Responsibilities
Design and build online courses under the supervision of more senior IDs
Under the supervision of more senior IDs, communicate with faculty at our partner universities, guiding them in course development
Follow frameworks, templates, and prototypes for course design
Edit content as necessary, ensuring it meets quality standards
Help to ensure courses meet accessibility requirements and create alternative learning experiences for online components that are not accessible
Research and build documentation on accessibility standards
Build prepared content to the learning management system (LMS)
Collaborate with a team of course developers to produce and/or source multimedia learning objects (video, audio, interactive objects, simulations, etc.)
Conduct photo research
Collaborate with more senior IDs and academics to determine effective course-level assessment
Help test the functionality of interactive objects
Communicate with student services to ensure support across the entire team
Collect, analyze and report on course evaluation data to identified stakeholders

the aptitude to work with a range of academic content
experience in evaluating learner outcomes and their impact on curriculum design
Qualifications

Education: a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, instructional design, technology, English, humanities, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:
1+ years in instructional design consultation, preferably with academics in higher education settings (a plus)
1-2 years of experience with online learning or the equivalent work experience preferably in writing, editing, teaching, curriculum development, or similar activity; previous exposure to teaching, design, or academic technology a plus
Familiarity with building course materials into learning management systems and utilizing the best online educational tools to promote student goal mastery
Experience working with simulations, games and other multimedia content
Higher education online teaching experience (a plus)

Travel: Travel to client and partner sites as needed, potentially up to 10% of time

Technical skills:
Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point
Experience with Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, Captivate, Adobe Creative Suite similar tools (a plus)
Experience with learning management systems including Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas and others
Understanding of video technology and basic editing
