Position Overview

The Wellness Services Director manages the operation of the Wellness Department including: maintaining standards in resident care services; supervision and oversight of Wellness Department staff including training and assigning overall duties in accordance with the residents’ needs; meeting financial and budgetary guidelines; and upholding state regulations and procedures.

· Responsible for interviewing, training, supervising and assigning significant overall duties / tasks in directing the work of all Wellness Department care team with full accountability for the performance of subordinates

· Demonstrates independent judgment and discretion

· Train and supervise Care Team in providing day to day care of the residents (i.e. bathing assistance, etc.)

· Train and supervise medication assistants in the delivery of medications.

· Responsible for the orientation of new employees

· Creation of staffing schedules that meets state guidelines, time off requests, overtime guidelines or other modifications in work schedules

· Assists Administrator in adjusting staffing levels based upon fluctuating occupancy and level of care

· Responsible for tracking attendance and effectively carrying out disciplinary action where appropriate

· Communicate and enforce policies and procedures including the Employer’s policies and procedures, and directly disciplines and/or effectively recommends corrective and disciplinary action to enforce such policies

· Evaluates performance and recommends changes to terms and conditions of employment in regards to departmental employees

· Oversee the electronic Medication and Care Plan systems.

· Direct and coordinate resident service plans from admission to discharge

· Complete timely and accurate resident evaluations as required by state regulations and Compass Senior Living policy

· Complete timely and objective incident reports and investigations

· Trend and track resident and employee incidents to help prevent re-occurrence

· Assists Administrator with timely submission of state required incident reports

· Perform licensed nurse tasks within scope of practice as allowed by state law

· Creates, implements and maintains an accurate wellness record for each resident

· Interact with the resident’s physician, pharmacist, and medical personnel as needed

· Assists with the coordination of care to residents with third party providers such as therapy, home healthcare and hospice

· Supervise the medication administration and/or assistance with self-administration of medication programs as required by state law. Supervise the storage, distribution and discontinuation of resident’s medication

· Administer medications and perform prescribed resident treatments within scope of practice and as permissible by state law

· May act in absence of the Administrator

· Adhere to and establish financial goals and budgetary guidelines for the Wellness Department

· Monitor employee morale, in striving to maintain a high level of employee satisfaction

· Communicate and interpret community systems and company policies for Wellness team.

· Manage administrative duties of the Wellness Department

· In partnership with the Administrator, completes timely resident evaluations, facilitating successful move-in experiences, monitoring level of care changes, move-out management which could impact marketability of the community

· Remain abreast of current State regulations and Nurse Practice Acts and compliance with regulatory processes, such as State, OSHA and EPA

· Assist the community in continued compliance with the policies and procedures, including those as outlined in the Quality Counts Policy and Procedure Manual

· Train community staff in infection control procedures including blood borne pathogen exposure plan, and Wellness Department policies and procedures

· Responsible for training and overseeing departmental employees so that they maintain high customer service standards for internal and external customers

· Help build relationships with outside care and service providers by participating in community outreach activities including routine visits to physician’s, discharge planners, hospitals and SNFs

· Maintain compliance and understanding of regulations regarding residents’ rights

· Responsible for Wellness departmental team attendance at required education training

· Provide staff education and re-education training as needed or identified

· Promote and encourage residents to participate in meaningful and life enrichment programs and other activities

· Follow, communicate and serve as a role model for company policies, procedures

Qualifications and Education Requirements

· Licensed RN or LPN/LVN in good standing with State Licensing Authority (If required by State Regulations.)

· Working knowledge of computers including E-Mar, Excel, Word, and MS Office is required

· Must be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, vendors and the general public

· Must meet all health requirements

· Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) with or without reasonable accommodation

· Must have valid driver license

· Must pass criminal background check and nursing licensure validation as required by state law

· Must have compassion for and desire to work with the senior population

· This position is salaried, and may include schedules which exceed eight hours in a day or forty hours in a week

· Able to work full-time, including some weekends

· Availability by phone or pager 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

· Occasional travel may be required
