Functions as a clinical expert and health care provider, educator, collaborator, consultant, leader and researcher for a specific patient population or specialty topic. Uses a framework for professional evidence-based nursing practice within three spheres of influence: patient/family, nursing, and system/organization.
Acts as a consultant to address complex patient care issues, providing guidance in prevention and management of patient care practice. Coordinates, coaches, educates, and leads nursing staff in evidence-based clinical practice, quality improvement and patient safety. Conducts, facilitates, or applies research to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Supports highly acute Medical-Surgical specialty units, in a large academic tertiary care facility, in the provision of evidence-based care to a diverse patient population using leading-edge technology and integration of clinical practice guidelines. Experience with a variety of multi-system acute and chronic medical conditions, as well as surgical interventions and care.
Coaches and facilitates an interdisciplinary care approach involving the patient, nursing, medical staff, pharmacy, laboratory, pathology, respiratory therapy, spiritual care, nutritional services, rehabilitation, and radiology. These activities include the identification of needs, scope definition, measurements, and report of progress on active projects.
Experience with quality and safety metrics to include nursing and patient sensitive indicators. Supports team in effective and innovative solutions to monitor and achieve best possible patient outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Training
Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s degree in Nursing is required. Doctoral degree in Nursing, Education, or Healthcare Administration is preferred.
Experience
Five years' experience of progressively more responsible job-related experience in Nursing. Experience in nursing advanced practice role is preferred.
License/Certification/Registration
A license as a registered nurse in the District of Columbia is required. Specialty certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization is required or must be obtained within one year of hire in his/her clinical specialty. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
