Full Job Description
The Director, Accounting, under the leadership of the Chief Financial Officer is responsible for directing both the strategic and day-to-day accounting functions for all GSFSGroup legal entities. These functions include: (1) establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles ("GAAP"), Statutory Accounting Principles ("SAP") and industry best practices; (2) establishing and maintaining a system of internal controls and company policies and procedures; (3) establishing, maintaining and administering accounting records (including the chart of accounts, general ledger, fixed asset ledger and other subsidiary ledgers) in accordance with GAAP, SAP, industry best practices and company policies; (4) establishing and implementing various strategic initiatives; (5) completing the monthly and year-end accounting close processes within deadlines, reviewing account reconciliations, preparing internal financial reporting and analyses and preparing regulatory reporting; (6) presenting findings and recommendations to business leaders and managers; (7) overseeing the sales cycle accounting, customer billings, and collection processes; (8) overseeing the disbursement cycle accounting and processing; (10) supporting internal and external audits. The Director also will take action to enhance or lead cross-functional teams; expand internal communications within GSFSGroup; develop GSFSGroup accounting associates; and support the financial planning and analysis team as well as other GSFSGroup functional areas.
Lead, motivate, reward, and develop the GSFSGroup accounting team.
Establish goals, plans and budgets for GSFSGroup Accounting.
Develop financial policies and procedures for GSFSGroup and recommend changes as needed.
Maintain system of internal controls that ensure protection of company assets and information security.
Direct the collection, recording, and reporting of financial data for all affiliated GSFSGroup companies:
Ensure data is accurate, complete and timely.
Ensure data complies with accounting, tax, and regulatory policies.
Create and distribute financial reports and analyses for business leaders and managers.
Direct the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for all affiliated GSFSGroup companies.
Direct the preparation of selected schedules, write ups, etc. necessary to support the GSFSGroup companies' annual financial and regulatory audits as needed.
Participate in the preparation for and conduct of financial examinations by departments of insurance and other outside agencies.
Coordinate preparation of financial packages for tax purposes - property; sales and use taxes; and income and franchise taxes.
Interpret pertinent FASB or other authoritative accounting pronouncements.
Oversee the study and analysis of new accounting pronouncements, technological advancements, or operation; and preparation of KPIs that measure results to established performance metrics.
Collaborate with TFG on the activities supporting the GSFSGroup companies' system of internal controls, general accounting and, statutory and external financial statement preparation to ensure the companies' accounting and financial reporting are in compliance with authoritative Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), statutory regulations and the GSFSGroup companies' information requirements.
Collaborate with TFG and the external tax return preparers to develop and implement tax strategies for the GSFSGroup companies; coordinate the information needed for the annual tax return preparation and review the tax accounting transactions and footnote disclosures.
Provide expert advice to other functional teams employed by GSFSGroup.
Resolve customer issues quickly and strive to satisfy customers.
Actively participate in systems projects and implementations, including evaluation of new systems and technology tools.
Assist business leaders and managers in the development of business and financial plans, profit objectives, budgets and forecasts.
Participate in maintaining technology systems and implementing business process changes necessary to support new products and existing product updates that will have an impact on the GSFSGroup companies' operations, accounting and financial reporting.
Demonstrated leadership, team building and coordination skills.
Understanding of internal control structures and effective alignment with the internal control structure.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Knowledge of F&I products.
Broad knowledge of GAAP and SAP and applicable federal, state laws and regulations pertaining to GSFSGroup of companies and its products.
Strong computer skills (spreadsheets, databases, word processing, etc.).
Knowledge of federal taxation and taxation strategies as it pertains to the insurance industry and GSFSGroup of companies and its products.
Ability to promote, coordinate, and support change.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Understanding of GSFS financial and productivity measures.

Manages multiple associates. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these associates. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, coordinating, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Responsibilities also include sponsoring, directing, coordinating, and supporting project and process improvement teams, and participating in and/or supporting project teams sponsored by other management team members. Collaborates with co-workers and GSFS leaders to leverage knowledge and experience to improve processes, procedures, and the work environment in order to eliminate inefficient and ineffective processes and procedures.
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; and 15+ years related management experience and at least ten years of insurance industry experience. An advanced degree preferred.
CPA - Preferred but not required: the candidate will have both a combination of public and industry experience, previous managerial experience and related month-end close experience.

Has valid driver's license. Is legally able to work in the United States. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferred.

The associate is occasionally required to travel to other sites, including out-of-state, where applicable, for business. The associate must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds.

While the job is generally performed in an office environment, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the associate may be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels.
Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 20% of the time and on a domestic basis).
