We are currently seeking Buyer/Purchasing Agent for our General Construction and our Milburn Flooring divisions. The ideal candidates will have extensive knowledge of construction related purchasing. The Buyer is responsible for ensuring that the materials required for construction/Flooring projects are provided and ensure cost-effective materials are purchased.
Plan, schedule and forecast procurement activities
Purchase general and specialized equipment, materials and subcontractor services for construction projects
Review plans, specifications and contracts to ensure the correct equipment, material and subcontractor services are ordered and/or purchased
Invite tenders, consult with suppliers and review quotations
Determine or negotiate contract terms and conditions, award supplier contracts or recommend contract awards
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Project Management/Site Supers. Etc.)
Develop an advanced understanding of the category subject matter
Analyze category forecast, projected spend, trends & demands
Bid & Negotiate 3rd party subcontractor labor when not self-performing
Technical ability to read approved submittals
Identify opportunities that focus on cost reductions, efficiencies/quality improvements, risk mitigation, industry and supply trend and shifts in technology
Ability to operate and execute effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and challenging deadlines.
Demonstrates a sense of urgency and proactive approach that is results oriented
Strong skills in building cross-functional relationships
Exhibiting and acting with integrity by maintaining compliance with internal policies, procedures
BA/BS degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience
Minimum of 3-7 years’ recent experience in Construction and/or Flooring Purchasing
Ability to read and comprehend detailed construction documents
Deadline driven and commitment to completion dates a must
Outlook, Word, Excel
Outstanding negotiating skills
Superb organizational skills and a proven track record of managing multiple projects in a transparent and well-documented manner
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in an ambiguous, busy, and contradictory environment, and deliver outstanding results in a timely manner
Outstanding organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization abilities; an excellent attention to detail
Ability to work well and exert influence as a member of a highly integrated team composed of both technical and non-technical members
Able to prepare reports, tracking & trends to present data as required
Familiarity with requirements gathering, information architecture and specifications
