ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Architectural Services: Responsible for overseeing and performing all phases of architectural design, including pre-design, schematic design, design development, construction drawings and construction oversight/contract administration. Develop site plans, renderings and building elevations in connection with the new development of commercial, lodging and residential projects. Meet and work with commercial tenants in connection with tenant improvement projects and renovations.
Building and Zoning Code: Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of building codes, zoning codes and other statutory requirements. Determine cost effective solutions for building and zoning related issues.
Construction Documents: Coordinate and lead the efforts of internal staff in the production of construction documents. Provide certification of construction documents prepared by CSM staff. Produce and assemble plans and information necessary for general contractors to bid on projects.
City Approvals: Work with city staff and city council members to obtain project approvals, zoning changes and building permits. Take the lead in presenting projects to the city council and other governing bodies during public meetings. Respond to questions, concerns and opposition from city council members, city staff and members of the public. Be comfortable and persuasive in a public speaking role.
Construction Oversight: Work with the Construction Department to oversee the renovation and construction of projects. Make periodic site visits to assess the construction process, materials and compliance with final construction plans. Assist the Construction Department in producing revisions and clarifications to construction documents. Approve pay applications.
Interior Design: Responsible for performing interior design services or hiring a third party interior designer as needed for projects.
Department Management: Responsible for managing the architectural staff members to include handling selection, retention, training and performance reviews. Determine motivational factors and identify development needs while striving to empower staff to improve their problem solving techniques to promote creative thinking. Evaluate each individual’s ability to make use of available tools and resources.
Outside Consultants: Retain and manage outside architects, engineers, interior designers and other consultants. Evaluate new and current consultants on an ongoing basis to ensure best pricing, terms, quality and service.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture
Registered Architect in the State of Minnesota for at least 10 years
LEED certified preferred
Experience with diverse project types
Extensive design and construction exposure
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop and Revit
Proficiency in rendering software such as SketchUp, 3D Studio and/or Adobe Photoshop
Previous supervisory/management experience
