Facebook is seeking a Communications Director to drive the process for rapid response communications and proactive public relations campaigns centered on Facebook’s most pressing issues. This person will play a central role in drafting messaging and responses to Facebook's most sensitive public communications.
The position requires a passion for Facebook consumer and developer tech products in general. Candidates should have a strong technical understanding of how Facebooks products work and the ability to quickly explain them. Excellent media and community relations, crisis communications, communications strategy, and content development skills are crucial. A key part of the role will be handling and responding to media requests, creating statements and responses, and providing background information to help reporters understand Facebook’s policies, features, and positions on public policy issues.
This person is expected to maintain relationships with key media, bloggers, and influencers and should be highly organized, energetic, and detail-oriented. The ideal candidate will be able to work cross-functionally to drive teams towards a launch or a common goal.
This role will work in partnership with functions across the company to collaborate, and ensure issues are reported about accurately. They will provide support for internal project management, steward relationships with internal and external partners, and ensure responsible sharing of data to inform key research questions.
This role is on the rapid response team is located in Menlo Park or San Francisco, California.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with our policy, legal, and leadership teams to build, understand and communicate corporate and product policies that support and protect our reputation
Lead communications activities on some of Facebook's most pressing and difficult issues
Manage in-bound press inquiries on a range of issues
Develop and pitch stories
Prepare messaging and other external materials such as blog posts and videos
Support product launches, policy advocacy, and other announcements
Prepare and train spokespeople, and staff press briefings and communicating at events
Engage on crisis communications topics and be able to quickly drive the team towards a strategy
Counsel cross-functional partners in engineering, product, policy, legal, and other groups within the company on communications considerations for product updates
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
10+ years of experience managing press and stakeholder relations in a public policy, issues management or public affairs
Experience drafting messaging materials, and working with cross-functional groups
Experience in working relationships with different press and bloggers
Experience managing issues and driving crisis communications
Experience juggling multiple deliverables and working in a deadline driven environment
Experience building outreach programs and managing stakeholder relations at a national or international level
Experience and relationships with reporters in local media markets across the country
Experience distilling technology or policy concepts into language
Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, or related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience at a public affairs agency and working on a communications or public relations team in-house
Experience at a technology company
