We are looking for a Controller to join the Business Operations practice in our Champaign office. The Business Operations team works with our clients to perform accounting and finance functions from an operations perspective. We are our clients’ accountants, controllers, and CFO’s and help our clients reach their organizational goals through our services.

In this role, you will work directly with clients and be responsible for supervising the accounting team on each engagement which may include a combination of CLA staff and client staff. You will also be responsible for delivering timely and accurate financial statements and management information to the client’s leadership team as well as implementing financial and operational best practices related to the client’s specific industry.

Job Description

Assist the accounting team to record complex transactions
Review complex account reconciliations prepared by the accounting team
Complete the monthly, quarterly, and annual adjusting and closing process
Adhere to the client’s organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards
Provide detailed review of the general ledger, financial statements and required work papers
Prepare work papers for the independent auditors, if applicable
Analyze and interpret financial information and regularly present to the client’s leadership
Develop budgets, analyze variances and implement corrective actions as needed
Review payroll and payroll tax compliance

Education/Experience

BA/BS degree in accounting or related field required
3+ years relevant work experience as a Controller or equivalent is required. Not for Profit experience is a plus.
CPA certification is preferred but not required
Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems. QuickBooks experience is preferred
Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc)
Ability to travel to client sites as needed

An understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting
