Position Title: Landscape Irrigation

Rate of Pay : $15.25 per hour (based on experience)

Position Purpose:
Working directly with the Maintenance Supervisor to plan, implement and manage landscape jobs. Installing, troubleshooting and maintaining irrigation systems. Assists with a variety of skilled general maintenance-related activities, and may perform janitorial and custodial duties as needed. This is a seasonal/temporary position and can not exceed 119 days.

Essential Functions:
Assists in skilled general maintenance and repair activities to fairgrounds buildings and facilities
Provides assistance to Plumbers with needed repairs when assigned.
Performs a variety of landscaping duties including mowing lawns and caring for plants and shrubs.
Loads and unloads supplies throughout the facilities.
Installing systems and ensuring that they function efficiently.
Repairing and maintaining valves, tracing electrical components, installing and initializing clocks an timers, locating existing zones.
May assist in other general maintenance duties. including carpentry and painting.
May participate in janitorial and custodial duties. including cleaning buildings and facilities, cleaning and restocking restrooms, emptying trash, and cleaning guest tables and eating areas.
Assists in maintenance activities of fairground’s landscape.
Provides assistance to landscape staff with needed repairs when assigned.
Performs a variety of landscaping duties including mowing lawns, weeding, pruning, and general plant care throughout the fairgrounds.
Turf grass repair, watering, seeding, edging, and mowing.
Assists with debris removal from planters, lawns, shrubs, and walkways.
Assists in irrigation repair, tree planting, fertilizing, and tool maintenance and repair.
Operates landscape machinery such as ride-on mower, push mower, string line trimmer and leaf blower.
Loads and unloads supplies throughout the facilities.

Qualifications: .
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must possess a valid California driver’s license to operate a utility cart and other equipment.
Minimum of 1 year experience working with irrigation systems.
Previous general, skilled maintenance and repair experience required.
Ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools necessary.
Ability to operate a forklift using proper safety standards required.
Good customer service skills and the ability to work well with others a must.
Previous landscape experience, knowledge of landscape equipment care and maintenance.
Experience with general plant care.
Ability to work outside the normal business day/week as demanded by events and programs.
Must be available to work 5 days per week, on any shift (days, swing, graveyard) between mid July and mid August.
Preferences: .
Experience in safely operating heavy equipment such as forklift, manlift, scissors lift, Bobcat (skid steer tractor) and/or skip loader highly preferred.
Irrigation certification a plus.
Familiarity with the layout and facilities of the OC Fair & Event Center helpful.
