Primary Responsibilities:
The Director of Transportation Systems is responsible for managing the end-to-end transportation systems and processes for KeHE’s inbound and outbound transportation. This key role focuses on advancing KeHE’s system landscape, covering transportation planning and execution for inbound product flow from suppliers and outbound product flow to retail customers along with leveraging cutting-edge technologies and implementing innovative solutions to solve transportation challenges. The role also involves enabling technology to support transportation operations, including shipment planning, carrier selection, private fleet planning, routing optimization, backhaul planning, outbound dispatch planning, pallet and trailer building, and driver pay capabilities. Additionally, the director is responsible for designing, developing, and training processes for inbound load planners, outbound load planners, cross-dock operators, and drivers. Essential Functions:
DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transportation System Capabilities

Implement best practices in business processes and system capabilities specific to the food distribution industry, focusing on transportation management systems.

Thoroughly understand and optimize all inbound transportation-related system capabilities, including shipment planning and consolidation, carrier selection, cross-dock planning, ready-to-ship, invoice portal, appointment scheduling, and yard management.

Develop creative solutions to optimize network and carrier constraints such as drivers, number of stops, transit times, dock availability, tractor and trailer availability, equipment types, and service levels.

Leverage innovations like Real Time Transportation Visibility (RTTV) to enhance inbound and outbound planning.

Integrate Manhattan TMS with other optimization modules, including Arrowstream/Crossbow.

Utilize cutting-edge technologies such as RTTV, AI/ML to reduce costs and assist in critical transportation decision-making.

Stay ahead of industry trends to continuously bring best-in-class technology and capabilities, enhancing transportation efficiency and customer service.
Processes

Lead major organizational changes through system and process enhancements and digital transformation.

Develop strategies to ensure vehicle cube efficiency and route efficiencies using system capabilities and lean methods.

Establish lean processes, documentation, training, change management, and compliance assessment.

Guide system leads and analysts through software development and implementation lifecycle, including solution design, testing scenarios, and user acceptance testing (UAT).

Understand and improve day-to-day processes for inbound load planners, outbound load planners, cross-dock operators, consolidators, and drivers.
Change Management and Analysis

Develop and manage transportation cost models with strong financial acumen, aligning implementation with senior leaders.

Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Category Management, DC Ops, and other departments to enhance supply chain and transportation KPIs.

Lead enterprise initiatives and project management, including comprehensive project plans, success criteria tracking, scope management, issue identification, and contingency planning.

Mentor and coach system analysts and lead system analysts, effectively influencing change management and system capability adoption, and articulate the impact of capability changes on processes and streamlining internal supply chain and cross-functional processes.

Support transportation KPIs, partnering with key leaders to understand and resolve challenges.

Ensure seamless integration of transportation systems with other packaged applications and internal systems such as master data, warehouse management systems, PO visibility systems, and reporting systems.

Provide ongoing measurement of systems stability, data accuracy, and process efficiencies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Supply Chain Systems including but not limited to transportation, warehousing, supply-chain execution software and third-party logistics.

Minimum of 6 years of experience managing and leading teams.

Manhattan TMS experience preferred.
- Oracle, SAP, Blue Yonder or other Transportation systems are a plus.
