Legal Assistant

The Applicant will be expected to provide direct assistance to the lead litigation attorney and a team of attorneys in the St. Croix office assisting primarily in commercial litigation and employment as well as family and criminal matters in the USVI’s largest integrated law firm.

The Applicant will be required to assist in all areas required by litigation attorneys and coordinate projects among attorneys and support staff towards completion. Trials, arbitrations, hearings, mediations, meetings, depositions, discovery, motion practice, contract/legal document preparation and all required logistics and organization will be part of the regular duties. The applicant will be required to regularly interact with court staff, clients, outside attorneys, witnesses and service providers and coordinate them towards desired outcomes. Constant attention to deadlines and follow-up on case management is essential.

Required Education

Bachelors’ degree or high school diploma with equivalent demonstrated on-the-job experience

Preferred certification as a paralegal

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Office telephone, copier, printer and facsimile proficient
  • Solid basic math skills

Preferred Skills

  • Litigation paralegal or paralegal skill set or significant experience as a legal assistant
  • Discovery management, basic legal writing, client communication, basic legal and court document preparation and review experience
  • Scheduling and project-tracking design and maintenance
  • Basic event planning and management
  • Spanish language proficiency
  • Video conferencing system proficiency
  • Law firm billing software proficiency
  • Electronic filing system proficiency

Pay and Benefits

Pay range is from $16.00 to $18.00 per hour depending on experience
