Major Duties and Responsibilities
-
Assumes responsibility for the efficient and effective operation of the nursing unit by:
-
Ensuring that prescribed schedules and operating policies and procedures are followed.
-
Making recommendations regarding improved operating systems and procedures and performance ratings for nursing employees.
-
Allocating work and assisting in training personnel.
-
Assists in evaluating nursing staff.
-
Oversees and provides resident care according to care plan including preventive measures, treatments, medications, diet, and other health services.
- Communicates and shares resident information with nursing staff on all shifts. Reviews charts and monitors treatments to coordinate continuing resident care.

Makes rounds to observe and evaluate the status of residents in the unit. Assesses resident condition and determines need to notify physician.

Oversees the storage and administration of medicines according to established procedures and manuals.
-
Assures compliance with proper safety measures for residents and staff. Administers and monitors infection control and other safety procedures.

Consults with physicians; receives, records, and transcribes orders as required.
-
Communicates in a compassionate, professional manner with residents, families, and physicians.
-
Assures adequate quantity of supplies and that equipment is in working order. Interacts with other departments to provide continuous resident care.

Maintains comprehensive knowledge of general nursing practice, organization policy, and government regulations regarding resident care and facility operation.

Maintains current state license as a registered or practical nurse. Participates in required in-services and staff meetings.

Coordinates response to emergency situations and disaster drills.

Contributes resident care information to the Care Conference Team. Attends Family Care Conference.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

Ability to assist in evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting to 50lbs and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.

Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, work areas.

Communicates with medical and nursing staff, and other departments.
