Your primary role will include providing oversight and direction to technical staff. Maintain and monitor the health, post-operative care and physical environments within the sites varied animal care environment.
Provides oversight and direction to technical staff. Participate in interviewing process, investigations, performance reviews, corrective actions and termination process. Provides mentoring and development via constructive feedback. Establishes schedules to ensure clinical care and research related technical support is fulfilled on schedule. Verifies the vet tech support area tasks are completed daily. Assist the Vet Tech with ensuring that medications are pulled up and properly labeled with animal ID, medication name, date(s), and total number of doses. Attends weekly veterinary rounds.
Support and assist in the Quality Control Program by participating in inspections and providing resolution to findings. Work closely with Resident/Clinical Veterinarian(s) to perform daily health assessments of laboratory animals in the colony. Provides animal treatments as instructed. Performs in hour animal sampling (blood and tissue removal) as part of the internal health surveillance program and the bi-annual physical exams and TB placements. Provides technical support, to include: animal handling and restraint, oral administration, identification, injections, blood collection, TB placement, surgical preparation, pre-, peri- and post-operative support, euthanasia and assisting with research procedures. Maintains complete and accurate records of animal clinical cases. Prepares and submits written records, charts, and logs; generates procedure guidelines for staff and makes recommendations for SOP revisions.
Monitors environmental parameters and maintains written records, including room temperatures, light cycles and sanitation. Reports problems to the building maintenance department. Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines; performs general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures. Complies with safety policies and procedures and SDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances. Assists with the ordering, receipt, stocking and maintenance of supply inventories. Ensures documentation is filed in a timely manner. (No more than 7 business days from generation of documentation). Reports maintenance issues pertaining to the vet tech areas to facilities maintenance.
High School Diploma or GED required. AA in Veterinary Technology or BS in Biology, Animal Science or related preferred. Minimum of 3 years related veterinary technician experience required with a variety of species. One year of experience in a leadership role required. LATG required. LVT highly desired.
