Summary of Internship

The Communications Internship provides an opportunity for marketing students who are currently pursuing a communications, marketing, journalism or similar degree to get hands-on experience working with marketers in a fast-paced environment to promote breakthrough analytical instruments. This passionate intern will help us drive our global and integrated communications campaigns in Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Materials and Structural Analysis Division. MSD has an extensive portfolio of electron microscopy and spectroscopy instruments and solutions that help scientists and researchers drive innovation and accelerate breakthrough discoveries in life sciences, materials science, semiconductor, spectroscopy, industrial, and related fields.

We are not looking for cookie-cutter PR, and we don’t want standard external communications programs. We have exciting stories to tell, and we want someone who can translate complex information into easy-to-understand terms. The ideal intern should be excited to share outside-the-box ideas and deliver results to help elevate our communications.

The communications intern will contribute to both internal and external projects, including social media. The paid position starts in June and is 40 hours per week through August.

Essential Functions

Collaborate with global stakeholders to research, write and edit stories for our internal intranet site
Develop content for our internal communications tool to support industry events and other milestones
Draft external content for social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn and Twitter) to promote industry news, customer announcement, and product updates
Support writing and editing as needed for other communications projects (i.e., blogs)
Develop and provide measurement reports for internal and external communications initiatives (internal sites, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.)
Compile content from key stakeholders for monthly newsletters
Skills and Abilities

Self-starter that is detail-oriented and proactive
Passion for using social media to connect with others
Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team
Willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to quickly grasp complex technical subjects matter
Familiarity with social media management tools like CoSchedule, Hootsuite, or Buffer a plus
Experience with Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint and Yammer, a plus

Student currently pursuing a communications, marketing, journalism or similar degree
Public relations or other communications experience preferred
