Airline Program Manager
The Society of Satellite Professionals International conducted a poll of its members to select the 25 most significant events of the past quarter century ending 2012. Since the results were tallied SSPI has been counting down the top 25. The creation and launch of ViaSat-1 was selected as the 15th most significant milestone in the entire industry over the past 25 years. And when you look over the list, a few of the milestones are infamous rather than innovative, so as inventions go, that moves us up even a few notches higher!
We are seeking a program manager for our commercial aviation business. In this role you will be the main interface to an airline customer, understanding issues and requirements, driving successful completion of project scope, and facilitate resolution to all open items. The successful candidate will have experience meeting with customers, extensive experience working with a variety of engineering development teams, developing program plans based on contractual requirements, managing budget, schedule and performance risk, meeting commitments, and anticipating and circumventing problems. In addition, you will be developing customer relationships and working effectively with functional areas within the company. You will be leading, directing, and motivating cross-discipline teams across multiple organizations and geographic sites.
Manage an airline program from award through the deployment and initial acceptance of the product and services, including hardware and software required to enable these services
Lead a cross functional team of engineers, developers, operations, logistics and field support as part of the airline program.
Serve as the focal point with an airline and within Viasat for the airline deliverables, schedule, cost and risk
Serve as an escalation within Viasat or with the airline if deliverables aren’t being met
Establish joint milestones, dependencies and risk mitigations between the airline and Viasat
Prioritize scope to meet airline needs in conjunction with the Viasat product and service roadmaps.
Develop, maintain, and distribute standard project management deliverables for the successful launch of an airline or additional aircraft awards, including:
implementation plan, project schedule, project budget and variances, issues & action items log, meeting minutes, risks assessment and contingencies.
Work with supply chain to manage suppliers and sub-contracts to ensure schedule and deliverables are met. Generate Statement of Work (SOWs), change proposals and management, and coordinating that the scope, requirements, schedule, and risks are understood by all parties
Manage customer through change proposals. Work with internal delivery/development teams to identify scope requirements, costs and timeline for new scope.
Partner with multiple operational teams to execute on time deliveries, help identify customer issues and areas of improvement, and increase customer satisfaction.
Anticipate problems and complications and formulate solutions so ensure progress of the project.
Assume responsibility and drive ownership for issue resolution
Work with Program Management Office to ensure all business systems, IT systems, partner platforms and networks are in place to support the product and service offering to an airline
Develop and maintain effective and productive internal and external relationships
Present in airline / customer facing program reviews, quarterly business reviews and executive review meetings
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience or education
8+ years of Customer facing Program Management experience in a technology-oriented organization.
Proven track record of successfully launching B2B2C technology products and services with geographically distributed teams in multi-vendor environments.
Self-starter with strong project management skills and the ability to work on and track multiple projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically when implementing products and solving problems.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical individuals across multiple levels.
Previous airline or OEM experience with a background in STC (supplemental type certificate) management
Strong negotiating and influencing skills
Strong risk management background
Ability to support domestic/international travel
