The Patient Service Associate is responsible for registering patients, collecting demographic, insurance information, and receives payments associated with services rendered and any other duties necessary to provide efficient, timely check-in and check-out services to the patients and families of CHOP.
Responsible for accurate and complete patient accounts based on departmental protocol, policies and procedures, and compliance with regulatory agencies, to include but not limited to pre-registration and registration functions. Ensure all insurance requirements are up to date and inform patients of their financial liability i.e. copayments. This position requires the use of high level customer service skills with our families, departments, and clinical staff by phone and face to face. The position also requires excellent communication skills.
Ensures timely and efficient patient check-in process. Greets patients and families in professional and customer service friendly manner. Obtains demographics, pharmacy and insurance information. Ensures essential patient information is properly collected and entered into the hospital registration system.
Able to work in a “team friendly” environment with peers, clinical staff and management of all levels.
Receives and processes payments associated with services rendered and reconciles daily services and end of day activities.
Confirms insurance eligibility of patient. Ensures all insurance information and requirements are adhered to as well as collects referrals, authorizations, and/or scripts from families and complete financial and consent forms if necessary.
Calls families when appropriate to discuss referrals or authorizations needed for the appointment.
Schedules follow up appointments (as needed) & enter diagnosis codes according to pre-established practice guidelines.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
Required Education and Experience
High School graduate.
Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic
Experience in healthcare, physician billing, registration, medical office, and/ or customer service preferred.
Two Year Degree or college equivalent preferred.
Additional Technical Requirements
EPIC Registration and Scheduling Training required within 1st month of employment.
EPIC Training Certification Required yearly.
Mandatory Regulation Training required throughout the year.
Working knowledge of computers.
Other training as needed.
