Workplace MEP Engineering, Manager will report to the Workplace Sr. Manager, Facilities and will be based in the Chicago area. The Workplace MEP Engineering, Manager oversees mechanical projects and will create & manage the project mechanical team. Managing and assumes design responsibility for the mechanical and plumbing design and production of multiple projects, and performs mechanical engineering tasks, including overall project tasks like business unit executive interviews, schematic plan reviews with REWS team as required. Additionally, performs scope of work and budget estimates for proposals, preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs and asset management.
Uses independent judgment to formulate and develop advanced mechanical engineering concepts for a given project or program function.
Performs work involving the application of complex or novel aspects of mechanical and plumbing engineering for the assigned functional area such as HVAC systems, plumbing design, and kitchen exhaust systems.
Conceptualizes the initial mechanical and plumbing design approach for major phases of large facility-type projects or has overall responsibility for the mechanical engineering work on a project of defined scope.
Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates mechanical engineering work.
Assist with the design and ongoing progress of a project, including project coordination with city, state, and county officials and other outside agencies.
Resolves a variety of complex problems; e.g., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
Reviews plans and prepares or reviews technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
Participates in the coordination of BIM.
Coordinates technical and administrative activities for a project with internal partners and stakeholders
Manages preventative maintenance schedule for region
Converses with equipment operators to ascertain problems with equipment, and determine if breakdown is due to human error or mechanical problems
Tests faulty equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction
Oversees tests of electronic components and circuits to locate defects as needed
Manages team on Replacing defective components and wiring and adjusts mechanical parts
Oversees & manages team on Aligning, adjusts and calibrates equipment according to specifications
Oversees all asset management cycles and data
Ensures plumbing, sewer, water, electrical and mechanical systems are functional throughout region
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering preferred.
Minimum of 5 plus years of experience in Mechanical Engineering. Experience in private commercial development projects highly preferred.
Proficiency in Autodesk programs.
Understands and possesses a working knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and approval processes as well as site-specific research with respect to these issues.
Is experienced in mechanical design of commercial developments.
Ability to review, analyze and resolve mechanical and construction field issues.
Is familiar with LEED and energy efficient design.
Proficiency in Energy Modeling.
Is experienced in concurrently managing multiple large-scale projects.
Demonstrates strong skills in managing schedules and budgets.
Demonstrates technical writing skills needed
Understands client goals and uses effective communication and leadership skills to manage project schedules and budgets.
Communicates in a timely and effective manner within team and with clients, various agencies, and other disciplines working on project.
Demonstrates effective leadership skills in directing and completing assigned work.
