Right Now Employment is seeking a Director of Manufacturing & Purchasing for our client who is one of the largest a subcontracted manufacturers in North America producing medical grade nutritional food products.
This position contributes to the profitable growth of North America operations by developing and maintaining the most efficient sourcing and manufacturing solutions for the company in terms of supply and production sourcing mix as well as technical solutions for product innovation while delivering superior products, service and costs under the upmost quality and food safety standards.
This role will develop the talent pool within manufacturing team on both functional and managerial skills to create a high-performance team. The successful candidate will have previous people development & management experience, company owned plant level operational production experience, 3rd party co-manufacturing, raw ingredient and packaging procurement experience and the ability to thrive in both small office and world class global manufacturing and corporate environments.
Essential Functions: These responsibilities apply to both own and co-manufacturing operations.
1. Business & Strategic Management
a. Lead the local manufacturing process plan, including quality and food safety, to alignment with Global Senior management.
b. Responsible for developing a vision for the manufacturing team and leading the team to achieving that vision in alignment with company objectives. This vision is to include, manufacturing footprint, manufacturing efficiencies and goals, manufacturing processes, food quality, safety, etc.
c. Lead, with Category Directors, the identification and development of new products to increase plant operational efficiencies, conversion costs and with an optimized time to market.
d. Develop and animate a partnership with both local and overseas Research and Innovation and Quality Food Safety teams to secure product safety and superiority through minimized product variability and specification consistency.
2. Manufacturing responsibilities
a. Develop, implement and drive local sourcing strategy choices, to include own and 3rd party manufacturing, and Master Plans that will deliver the top and bottom line performances for the company.
b. Responsible for the acceleration of performance rate of improvement: Continuously work will suppliers and cross functional teams to drive and own the productivity pipeline to deliver ongoing cost optimizations. Maintain performance rate of improvement once optimized.
c. Drive the team to implement and animate manufacturing best practices.
d. Provide the resources, responsibilities and authority levels for the establishment and maintenance of the infrastructure and work environment to implement the requirements of FSSC 22000, FDA 21 CFR 117 and company PRP’s.
e. Implement needed Corporate Programs and Guidelines for Manufacturing.
f. Lead the transformation of current manufacturing site to improve and continue meeting company Quality Food Safety standards, as well as Food Safety local regulations.
g. Review the Operations Food Safety Management Systems at planned intervals to ensure suitability, adequacy and effectiveness.
h. Responsible for creating, managing and monitoring the overall operating and expense budget for the manufacturing facility and purchasing of raw ingredients and packaging materials.
i. Work closely with the VP of Operations to ensure manufacturing and purchasing plans and activities are aligned with overall Company objectives.
j. Ensure consistency in the manufacturing, quality and safety in the manufacturing process. Address issues immediately, take corrective action and share lessons learned with the team and senior leadership.
3. Purchasing responsibilities
a. Lead 3rd parties, raw and packs supplier contracts negotiations and management and liaise with global European Purchasing team when appropriate.
b. Partner with the Quality Team to ensure purchased materials that have impact on food safety and ensure the vendors have adequate controls to meet requirements in quality and food safety.
c. Lead supplier selection to ensure share of locally sourced raw materials.
d. Lead annual supplier performance review. e. Leverage on medical global contracts or other internal businesses supplier contracts to improve service, quality and reduce costs.
f. Lead supplier base rationalization
4. People management
a. Develop, lead and coach a high performing manufacturing team in order to be well equipped for current and future business challenges and contribute to the optimization of business results.
b. Implement and monitor team performance against company objectives. Ensure appropriate corrective actions and follow up are taken.
5. Safety Program
a. Develop and oversee Safety Program initiatives for the North American site. Liaise with VP, Operations and CBU Safety Program Coordinator as required.
b. Create and maintain a zero-risk operating culture to deliver a safe environment for anyone working in North America manufacturing plants.
6. Site Leadership
a. Provide site leadership to the North American office, including acting as the lead for weather related office closures, safety and security, personnel matters, etc. Liaise with senior leadership and HR as required.
b. Build relationship with local community and authorities to inform of any potential site changes that they should be aware of or any new regulations/direction that the site needs to comply with.
Supervisory Responsibilities: The Director, Manufacturing & Purchasing has one direct report: Associate Production Manager. This position also has seven indirect reports.
Working Conditions: Work is conducted in both office and manufacturing/packaging environments.

Salary: $120,000.00 to $150,000.00 /year
