Lake Superior Consulting, LLC, a Shawcor Company, headquartered in Duluth, MN, is a team consisting of Engineers, Technicians and Support Specialists committed to providing a premier level of service to our customers in the pipeline industry. We provide many services to the pipeline industry, including but not limited to: Engineering Design and Project Management, Integrity Management, Welding Inspection, Coating Inspection, Survey, Quality Control, Inline Inspection, and Cathodic Protection.

We are currently growing at a fast pace and as part of that growth, we are seeking to fill a full-time CAD Designerposition in our Bloomington, MN office. Please note that our Bloomington office is moving to a Roseville, MN location at the start of August 2018.

The CAD Designer would be responsible for facilities and pipeline related design, construction management and integrity management projects from inception through to delivery. Projects will be multi-disciplined covering civil, mechanical, and electrical works, with a strong focus on the utilities area of the business. Responsible for the successful delivery of each project through management of internal staff, external contractors, financial control, and strong management of change.

Draft, develop, and implement quality standards and procedures as means for checking documents once drafters or designers have finished producing the documents, but before engineering or the client receives it. This includes ensuring the documents follow Drafting Best Practices, Design Services Standards Manual as well as company and client quality guidelines, legibility, spelling, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare plans, layouts, assembly drawings, detail drawings and sketches as directed by engineers.
  • Be responsible for the knowledge of building codes, federal transportation regulations, development of details and the organization of construction documents.
  • Creating and modifying 3-D piping custom components, equipment, structures, facilities, etc.
  • Conceptualize, design and communicate successfully in SOLIDWORKSusing current industry standards.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate design and drawing archives and revision history.
  • Be able to communicate effectively while working in a team environment.

Position Requirements:

  • A.A.S. Degree in Drafting or relevant background.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in designing large diameter pipeline.
  • Have a full understanding SOLIDWORKS, and knowledge of SMAP 3D and other add-ons a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and have some database knowledge.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have good mathematical background to handle common calculations.
  • Willing to learn new skills and work as a team to meet deadlines.
  • Ever-changing projects and industries. Something to convey how interesting piping and facility design is and can be.

Physical Requirements and Demands:

  • Frequent periods of standing for long periods.
  • Occasional lifting in up to 50lbs.
  • Exposure to weather including heat and cold climates.
  • Ability to work long hours and possible overtime when projects demand.
