This role is to serve as a MiLB Physical Therapist for the Miami Marlins Medical Team. This position will require daily interaction with field staff, strength & conditioning coaches, team physicians, Minor League Rehab and Medical Coordinators as well as other staff and front office members. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, providing rehab care to injured athletes throughout the year including Spring Training in Jupiter, FL, the Minor League season, and offseason.
Essential Function & Responsibilities:
- Ability to accurately evaluate and diagnosis baseball injuries and general medical conditions.
- Develop and implement rehab and return to play progressions within the philosophy of the Miami Marlins Sports Medicine & Performance Team
o Write and develop individual throwing, running, and swing progressions based on an athlete’s injury and position and adjust as necessary.
- Communicate with Strength and Conditioning coaches, mental skills coaches, sport scientists, and dietitians on the athletes under your care.
- Communicate on prognosis and progression of athletes to Minor League Rehab and Medical Coordinators
- Evaluate running/throwing mechanics in relation to desired movement patterns established by the Marlins Medical Team.
- Keep accurate and complete records of injury and rehabilitation within the MLB EMR system.
- Ability to demonstrate professionalism in high stress situations.
- Travel may be occasionally required to assist with doctor’s appointments and rehab assignments.
Education, Experience & Skills Required:
- Doctorate in Physical Therapy; PT/ATC Dual Credentials preferred but not required.
- PT Licensure in the state of Florida
- CPR Certified
- Bilingual Spanish/English Preferred
- APTA Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist Preferred
Work Environment
Position will work in an athletic training room, weight room, baseball complex, office and stadium environment. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environments. Work is medium in demand. Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects. Medium strength is required to position patients for examination. May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
