Full Job Description
Serves as liaison between patients and hospital staff. Navigates available services to assist the patients and families with physician referrals and appointments. Focused on keeping patients within the MedStar system for revenue enhancement. Participates in data collection and maintains an accurate and up-to-date database.Strengthens the relationship of the organization with patients, families and community physicians. Enhances the total patient care experience by providing individualized and personal care to each customer.
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
5 years related healthcare or customer service experience.
CPR certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication. Proficient in computer skills and managing databases.Strong people skills to include marketing, problem solving, resourcefulness, customer service and service recovery skills.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in referring patients to appropriate medical services based on patient condition, availability of services and insurance benefits. Makes appropriate referrals to within the MedStar system as a first priority whenever possible. Focused on enhancing internal revenue.
Contributes to the achievement of established organizational goals and objectives. Adheres to the organizational philosophy of PatientsÆ Rights and Responsibilities, policies, procedures, quality and safety standards. Recommends changes in policies and procedures as necessary. Complies with all governmental and accreditation regulations.
Participate in marketing strategies within the community to promote the services of the hospital and navigation program. Strengthen the hospital relationship with community physicians.
Participates in accurate data collection including rounds, discharge phone calls, referrals, appointment and other data as necessary. Maintains and accurate and up-to-date database.
Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Rounds on patients in the Emergency Department with the goal of marketing the services of the navigator program and other hospital programs/physicians.
Serves as designated liaison between patients, their family or visitors and the hospital.
