Global Corporate Affairs (GCA) is responsible for SAP's corporate reputation, communications, government relations and corporate social responsibility. The team develops strategic messaging and corporate content and engages vital audiences in dialogue to advance SAP’s position as one of the largest and fastest growing cloud companies in the world.

This position will play a key role on GCA’s North America Communications team, acting as the integrated communications lead for the West market unit in the United States and driving the strategy and direction for overall communications in Silicon Valley, a strategic innovation and sales region for SAP. The ideal candidate is a rock star communicator who will own, develop, manage, and execute all corporate communications activities and plans for the Western United States and Silicon Valley. The position will be supported by the broader North America Communications team.

The candidate in this role will constantly challenge and improve the effectiveness of SAP’s strategic communications functions and activities across the region.

Develop, maintain, and execute an ongoing strategic communications plan to continue to promote and position SAP as the leader in its industry. Must develop a clear understanding of the goals and business objectives of the company and align all communications programs to the company’s overall strategic business plan in North America.

This is a hands-on, individual contributor role that requires strong leadership and the ability to manage and lead cross-functional teams. Requires strategic vision coupled with the ability to create and execute tactical deliverables on a daily basis. Must be a PR machine who loves to pitch reporters and get your hands dirty on Corporate Communications projects.

Partner closely with other corporate functions in each market unit to ensure fully-integrated efforts.

Media Relations

Deliver annual communications plans, manage PR agencies and provide communications counsel to local Managing Director and executives in that market unit.

Work with Sales Leadership to deliver thought leadership and messaging to position SAP with all key stakeholders and engage in collaborative discussion with key external communities.

Ensure a strong rolling volume of media coverage and strong message penetration around all market categories and industry verticals.

Build, own and nurture relationships with key journalists.

Ensure crisis communications events are managed, coordinated and escalated to regional and global communications leaders when necessary.

Employee Communications

Consistently deliver communications based on change management priorities and advocate for the information needs of employees.

Manage internal communications that focuses on consistent and engaging messaging for employees – working closely with HR and local business leaders based on the company business plan and company vision to create consistent key messages.

Enable employee engagement through regular communication channels and work with regional teams to provide content for quarterly company updates or Town Hall meetings.

Executive Communications

Secure appropriate speaking and engagement opportunities for executives.

Produce and review content for executives and respective management leaders as appropriate, including speeches, internal memos, press releases, white papers, keynote presentations, and important stakeholder correspondences.

Requires BA/BS in Communications, Journalism, PR, Business, or Marketing

5-7+ years of related experience developing and driving successful and comprehensive communications plans.

Successful candidate must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Experience managing and partnering with external PR agencies.

Ability to lead teams and prioritize according to changing business priorities.

Ability to grasp aspects of the business, technical issues and market considerations; software industry and technollgy experience preferred, but not required.

Proven track record of implementing successful media relations programs in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments.

Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Strong interpersonal/human relations/management skills for dealing with senior management and coordinating projects with internal contacts and outside vendors.

Proven ability to handle executive level interaction and influence executive thought leadership.

Ability to work with composure under pressure and to manage multiple, concurrent tasks and projects.

Flexible and resilient. Problem solver. Critical thinker. Ability to gain consensus among others. Ability to manage sensitive situations.

Requires ability to work in cross-cultural environment and willingness to travel on a frequent basis.

The ideal candidate must be an outstanding professional who is passionate about communications. He/she must have proven media relations skills and employee communications experience.

This individual will be a dynamic business manager and a world-class communications professional, who can motivate, lead others, and work with cross-functional teams in a heavily-matrixed environment.

He/she must have outstanding strategic planning skills, a solid understanding of business relationships, and the knowledge, intellect and temperament to work at the highest levels in a corporate environment. A high degree of personal initiative, as well as outstanding interpersonal, collaboration, listening, verbal, written communications and process facilitation skills, are absolutes.

Must exhibit the ability to work in an evolving environment and balance the needs of various internal and external stakeholders; high tolerance for rapid change and stress; flexibility and steady temperament. Tolerance for ambiguity. Must be collaborative in nature and capable of building consensus and strong working relationships within a matrix organizational structure.
