What You Will Do
LANL Computational Physics is eagerly searching for master's- or doctoral-level career scientists / engineers with interests and experience in research software engineering or computer science. The Lagrangian Codes Group develops and maintains large scale, massively parallel multi-physics codes as part of the Advanced Scientific Computing (ASC) Program. The duties of our well-compensated professionals include the modernization of core software infrastructure for performance portability, performance monitoring and analysis, development of novel I/O and visualization capabilities, application of DevOps practices in both development and production HPC environments, development of requirements for next-generation HPC platforms, and education and support of users as they adopt our products. We encourage mentoring for new staff to build skills quickly, and we work within a dynamic multi-physics team environment that facilitates productive and collaborative relationships with our software users, other software teams, and with theoreticians and experimentalists across LANL.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Professional knowledge and experience in applying robust software engineering practices to the development of scientific simulation software
Experience in mixed-language HPC software development, including in Fortran, C++, and Python
Ability to express ideas clearly in oral and written presentations
Experience as a productive member of an interdisciplinary team with minimal supervision
Proven ability to satisfy customer requirements by making sound programmatic and technical decisions
Effective interpersonal skills, including building effective relationships with users
Initiative for continuous learning and development
Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance (which normally requires U.S. citizenship)
Experience in development of parallel multi-physics simulation codes
Experience in performance analysis, especially of parallel multi-physics simulation codes
Experience in performance optimization of simulation codes, especially by exploiting GPUs or other specialized HPC hardware
Experience using LANL or other DOE HPC systems
Active Q clearance
Master's degree or PhD in computer science, applied mathematics, physics, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience is strongly preferred. A minimum of a BS is required.
