Number of Positions: Multiple
Duties: Assists library patrons in using facility resources (e.g., catalog of library materials, indexes, reference materials). Assists in developing and administering library programs and services (e.g., adult book discussion, library orientation, bibliographic instruction, children's programs).Prepares reading lists, bibliographies and annotations for library collections. Responds to questions and requests for information regarding library collections. Oversees library collections and makes recommendations for the acquisition of new materials and collections. Conducts research on bibliographic data using library databases and the Internet .Promotes library programs, services and exhibits (e.g., designing flyers or displays, Summer Learning Challenge) visiting area schools and community organizations). Compiles and maintains records and reports of library activities and inventories. Processes interlibrary loans, reserves and holds. Supervises the work of Library Pages and clerical staff. Assists in writing grants or seeking outside support for library programs. Performs related duties as assigned.
LOCATION: Various throughout the District’s 5 and 6
DAYS OFF: Two days per week
SHIFT: Will be required to work some evenings and weekends
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours

Graduation from an accredited American Library Association college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science or an approved foreign credential evaluation.

VETERANS PREFERENCE NOTE: The City of Chicago offers Veterans Preference to both current, active military personnel AND military personnel who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received an honorable or general discharge. Eligible candidates must have at least six months of active duty documented. In order to receive the veterans preference, candidates need to indicate whether or not they are a veteran by answering "yes" or "no" to the question on the online application that asks, "Are you currently serving on active duty for at least six months in the Armed Forces of the United States OR have you served in the Armed Forces of the United States on active duty for at least six months and received an honorable or general discharge?" Failure to answer the question and attach the required documentation will result in you not being considered for the Veterans Preference.
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
Planning, publicizing and presenting programs
Collection Development experience
Work experience or coursework in Adult Services
Conducting research on bibliographic data using library databases and the internet
Experience working with interactive websites
Experience creating digital content for websites
Evaluation: Your initial evaluation will be based on information provided on the application form and documents submitted with the application. Applications must be submitted by the individual applicant. No second party applicants will be accepted.
Residency Requirement: All employees of the City of Chicago must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
